At this point in the case, we have read about Maya’s difficult transition to school. We’ve also heard about the transition experience from her mother, her preschool teacher, and her kindergarten teacher. Let’s take a step back and reflect on some of the more objective data in the case. Table 1 and Table 2 present information about the ethnicity of the students and teachers at both the Grant Head Start Program and Davis Elementary. The tables also provide data on the numbers of students at these schools who come from low-income homes and student achievement scores.
