5 dangerous things top docs NEVER let their kids do
When my kids were very young, there was one “child safety” thing I was especially paranoid about.
I absolutely, positively, would not let them eat … whole grapes.
If someone gave them some, I’d take them and cut them up.
I mean sure, I was taught how to do the Heimlich Maneuver at some point, but did I really want to roll the dice that:
- I’d do it properly in a crisis
- It would actually work
I’m not sure why it was grapes in particular that got me so riled up — maybe I read an article or something — but it turns out I’m in good company.
Last week, my wife sent me a social media post by a high-profile American doctor in which she asked family and friends — all of whom are also doctors specializing in assorted areas of medicine — about the 1 thing they would NEVER let their kids do.
Do any of these line up for you?
Protective or paranoid?
Nobody wants to make a mistake that winds up leaving their children badly injured or even dead, but sometimes we just don’t see the dangers around us.
Or maybe we do see the dangers, but we were brought up by boomer parents who didn’t know any better.
