Future contracts were so far available on Bitcoin, but their recent move to ether are fuelling speculation about the future.

Future contracts, also known as futures, are standardized exchange-traded financial derivatives that provide an agreement between a buyer and a seller to buy or sell an asset at a predetermined price on a predefined date. Each future contract is tied to a specific amount of the underlying asset, in this case ether.

The market expectations vary, as some say that the development of the futures market positively impacts the overall legitimacy and subsequent investment, eventually maybe even a listing of exchange traded funds (ETFs).

On the other hand, research from San Francisco Federal Reserve suggests that Bitcoin’s fall from grace is directly tied to the futures.
