The end of March is upon us which means it is time to look at what my music crushes have been up to since I spotlighted them. Let’s kick off the list with a song that made me stop whatever I was doing and listen to it and again and again. This “Stay/Animal MashUp” by Jessica Rotter and Emily Colombier is fantastic.

Dominique Star

My favourite girl with blue hair is on a break from posting covers on YouTube after her adventures at SXSW. To be fair, if I went it would’ve taken a few years off my life, so the rest is well deserved. In related news she tweeted that she was looking for a SXSW boyfriend. If I was in Texas would I have responded? Scale from one to most definitely? Anyways, here’s her cover of Rhye’s “Open.”

Jessy Lanza

I found out about Jessy last week because my friend Francis decided to drop her on me without any warning. This type of thing shouldn’t be allowed.

Njmoza

For those who are unfamiliar with this girl from Chicago, it’s pronounced “Nee-ohm-za.” The Gold Lion gets her Drake on with “Hold On” and our ear holes are better for it. I can’t wait to see what she does next.

Mr. Little Jeans

Our favourite girl from Norway has been busy since we last checked on her. She released a her debut album titled Pocketknife. On her Facebook page, she describes a pocketknife as, “It is small but has a million uses. It can open locks, cut ties and be used as a weapon or even for first aid.” She also adds, “I see it as an extension of yourself that symbolizes strength, intelligence and courage.”

If Pocketknife is a true extension of Mr. Little Jeans, I’m not complaining. She has found her lane with this album and I hope she sticks to it.

LIZ

If synths, breezy voices, and girls from Norway aren’t your thing. Can I interest you in a girl who channels old school R&B mixed with production from today? This is what LIZ accomplishes on her Just Like You EP.

Kayslee Collins

A new edition to the music crushes. Kayslee only has one song on her Soundcloud but it’s a perfect summer pop song. It also doesn’t hurt that she posts pictures like this. Hopefully whatever she follows “Mullohalland” with it will be just as mesmerizing.

Alina Baraz

Speaking of mesmerizing, have you heard of Alina Baraz?

Can we talk about the first four lines of the song.

Listen long, long enough you can love me
I’ll be just yours, you can hold me
Even let you undress my mind
Save it, play it, watch it then press rewind

In other words, I’m hooked.

Meg Myers

Meg has been a busy girl. She just finished up shows at SXSW. Released her Make a Shadow EP. But those two things as important as they are don’t match up to this. My music crushes co-signing each other? Too good to be true.

So why choose this song to highlight instead of any of her tracks from her EP? This Hucci remix of “Desire” is down right hypnotic. It somehow is able to add a sense of urgency and another layer of atmosphere for Meg’s voice to shine through. The original song punches you in the face, the remix drags you into the underworld.
