“Dark Shadows”: The 1960s TV Show — Is It Worth A Watch?

I was on Amazon Prime Video a few months ago looking for something new to watch. I fancied something spooky, but not a horror. One of the recommended shows that popped up for me was Dark Shadows — the television show from the 1960s.

After some research, I discovered that the movie of the same name from 2012 was based on this show. I loved that movie, and the storyline was right up my alley, as I love dark gothic tales like this. Now that it was being recommended, I decided to give it a go and hit play.

My love for this weird and kooky show was born. As I had watched the 2012 movie I was already familiar with the basic story and characters, but the television show is a lot more involved, and many more characters are coming and going.

Dark Shadows premiered in 1966 and ran until 1971. There were 1,225 episodes in total throughout those years, plus two separate movies.

In the first few episodes, we are introduced to Victoria Winters, who is moving to the seaside town of Maine to work as the governess for the youngest member of the Collins family, David. Once at Collinwood, where the Collins family have lived for generations, she meets Elizabeth Collins Stoddard, who is the matriarch of the family as well as the Aunt of David, her brother Roger who is David’s distant father…
