Badla Vs Captain Marvel
Nari Shakti seems to be ruling the box office and surprising everyone our desi girl Taapsee Pannu is leading over Marvel’s first female superhero movie, Captain Marvel starring Brie Larson.
Captain Marvel which released on the same day as Badla, 8th March, came out with high expectations. It is a Marvel movie to be released right before the final installment of Avengers had a lot riding on its shoulders. In terms of getting spoilers for Avengers, Endgame people have not been disappointed. On the other hand, Badla, directed by Sujoy Ghosh and starring Taapsee Pannu & Amitabh Bachchan is an adaptation of 2017 Spanish movie The Invisible Guest.
Badla was created for a niche audience and Captain Marvel was coming from Marvel Cinematic Universe which has worldwide fans, it was expected that Captain Marvel will overthrow Badla. By the end of 8th March, the predictions by trade analysts came true with captain Marvel doing a gross opening day business of 15.18 cr.
However, Captain Marvel failed to sustain the lead it got and Badla cashed in on the box office due to an edge of the seat thriller, power-packed performance from both Bachchan and Pannu and crisp direction by Sujoy Ghosh. By Thursday, Badla took and lead over Captain Marvel and emerged a hit on the BO. On Thursday 14th March Captain Marvel collected 3.10 crore and Badla collected 3.65 crores.
As the second weekend of release for both the movies ended Badla emerged as a clear winner over Captain Marvel. Badla has done a gross business of 66.90 crores proving the power of content.
Badla’s success makes for a great case study on how good content backed by excellent performances and overcome the challenges thrown by big-ticket movies. Captain Marvel is a worldwide phenomenon and in upcoming days it will gain even more as Avengers Endgame release date comes near. However, Badla turned out to be a hit in India while it was pitted against an international film.
