Arsenal duo Williamson and Mead called up to England squad for Women’s World Cup!
Arsenal stars Leah Williamson and Beth Mead discovered on Wednesday that they would join Phil Neville’s England Women’s side in France for the World Cup.
The Arsenal duo, who helped the Gunners complete their Women’s Super League title triumph at Brighton last Sunday, were confirmed in head coach Neville’s 23-player squad for this summer’s tournament in France.

One-by-one, the England squad was announced on Wednesday with a number of famous figures revealing each squad member, as Arsenal legend Kelly Smith (MBE) and now TV pundit confirmed Mead’s place.
It was another former Gunner who helped 22-year-old Williamson realise her dreams of a World Cup with England — ex-Arsenal frontman Ian Wright doing the honours this time around.
Williamson and Mead will take their place in a strongly favoured Lionesses squad, which could see up to 11 players make their England debuts in France and is tipped to be one of the contenders for glory this summer.Head coach Neville’s squad includes the likes of Manchester City and Lioness captain Steph Houghton, Fran Kirby of Chelsea and Barcelona forward Toni Duggan.
“We dreamed it, and now we’ve done it Can’t wait for this summer in France with the@Lionesses. I’m so grateful to be a part of this team #BeReady,” Williamson wrote on Twitter.
Mead added in her own post: “WOW! This is what it means, beyond words, an absolute dream come true! IM GOING TO A WORLD CUP! Lionesses.”
England kick-off their World Cup campaign against Scotland on June 9 in Nice, before facing Argentina and Japan in Group D.
