A Guide to Buy Low and Sell High

We are five weeks into the NFL Season and we have seen many surprises and a ton of disappointments from players this year. This article will suggest a few players to target in trade talks as buy low candidates and a few players to sell high on as well. Every scenario is different for fantasy owners and I may suggest to trade player A but it all depends on your needs. These suggestions are just to give some ideas for fantasy owners that may want to mix it up a little or for a team that desperately needs a shake up their roster to get back on track.

My Sell High Candidates

QB | Dak Prescott — QB 5

Prescott is the No. 5 QB through five weeks and he has looked like two different quarterbacks in those five weeks. During weeks one to three he averaged 27.9 against below average defenses. In weeks four and five he has averaged just 15.4 points against two of the better defenses. Dak will struggle against the tough defenses moving forward. Dak was drafted as a back up QB in most leagues so he is definitely tradeable. If you need some help at RB or WR, Dak could be used in a package deal to acquire that needed help.

RB | Mark Ingram II — RB 6

Ingram has been a bargain from where he was drafted, but I believe you could cash in on what he has done so far this season. Ingram does get the goal line work but he is not involved in the passing game which hurts in PPR formats. Teams are beginning to figure out Lamar Jackson a bit and that will hurt Ingram as the passing game has opened up the running game for Ingram. Cash in on a bargain draft pick and sell high on Ingram.

WR | DJ Chark Jr. — WR 3

DJ has been one of the biggest surprises of the season. DJ was not drafted in many leagues but was a hot waiver wire pick up after his big game against the Chiefs in Week 1. Since that awesome Week 1 game he has scored four touchdowns in four games. Do we really think DJ can keep this pace up all season, who knows. He is a prime sell high player right now if you can get a big name that has not played well to start the season.

My Buy Low Targets

QB | Aaron Rodgers — QB 19

Rodgers has been a great QB on the season and has led his team to a 4–1 record but his fantasy production has not been very good. The Packers have been more committed to the run and Aaron Jones, but I see Rodgers taking off here real soon. His schedule coming up is very nice starting with the Lions at home this week. He gets the Raiders and the Chiefs as well. If you have Davante Adams at WR this might be a good time to buy low on Rodgers to have that duo moving forward.

RB | Le’Veon Bell — RB 25

Bell has had a rough start to the season as the Jets offense has been no good with the absence of Sam Darnold. Bell has one thing going good for him and that is his touches. Bell is averaging 24.5 touches per game and has no less than 22 touches in a game. Volume is key in fantasy football and this usage is pretty solid. Bell only has one touchdown on the season and with the return of Darnold that should change as he is too talented to not find the end zone moving forward. Bell might be tough to trade for because of his name value but I think he is a great option to buy low.

WR | TY Hilton — WR 22

TY Hilton started the season off really nicely before his injury and missing Week 4. He had a tough game in Week 5 and this week the Colts are on a bye so his value is pretty low at the moment. Hilton had four touchdowns in the first three games and has a great connection with Jacoby Brissett. With the bye week it will give these two to rekindle that connection and I expect TY to get back on track in Week 7.

I hope these names give you ideas for some potential trade talks and as the famous Matthew Berry once said, “If you’re not trading, you’re not trying.” Good luck in Week 6 and I will bring my next buy low sell high article after Week 8.
