Buy Low Sell High Weekly Challenge

This isn’t your typical Buy Low/Sell High column. Here at the Fantasy Life App Blog we take fantasy football to another level because as our name suggests — this isn’t a game, this is real life! Well, it is a game, but we take it way too seriously and keeping with that theme I will be taking this column way too seriously by making it my mission to either buy or sell at least one of my six featured players each week.

Last week’s challenge was to either buy low on Le’Veon Bell, Dez Bryant, and DeAndre Hopkins or sell high on Mark Ingram/Tim Hightower, Davante Adams, and Latavius Murray.

I went back to the well of the 20-man OG league this week to complete my challenge in one of my largest trades of the season. I gave up Ben Roethlisberger, Carlos Hyde, DuJuan Harris and Davante Adams in exchange for Tyrod Taylor, Doug Martin and Michael Thomas. Whether this trade ends up a success for me is yet to be determined, but it does seem like my worries of Adams’ decline were unnecessary. Even with Cobb and Starks back in the lineup, Adams managed six catches for 156 yards on nine targets.

Now let’s get to this week’s players that I will challenge myself to either buy low or sell high this week.

Buy Low

Spencer Ware

Ware didn’t knock anyone’s socks off in his first game back from his concussion on Sunday against the Panthers with only 61 yards rushing and 11 yards receiving, but he was efficient with the work he did get. He only had 13 carries, giving him a 4.7 yard per carry mark that is more than adequate in today’s NFL. Although he failed to reach the end zone this week he has a much better match up against Tampa Bay upcoming. Denver will be tough after that, but then a three game stretch against Atlanta, Oakland and Tennessee look great for this Chief.

Brandon Marshall

That’s now five consecutive games for Marshall with 70 yards or less receiving and exactly zero touchdowns. This was by far Brandon’s worst game of the season and I can’t see many games where this supremely talented receiver finishes with only 15 yards as he did against the Rams. There is no doubt that the Jets quarterback situation is a mess and this is definitely a risk, but Marshall’s value is at an all time low and with his team heading into their bye, I could see him coming cheap to an owner desperate for a win that is tired of his poor performances.

Dion Lewis

Lewis was activated this week from injured reserve, but didn’t see any action against the Seahawks. If by the grace of God Lewis is still available in your league, then you had better snatch him up! If not, I would recommend buying low on this running back before the rest of your league gets a reminder of what he can do in this Patriots offense. Lewis was a top 10 back when healthy last season and could be the piece your team needs to put you over the top come fantasy playoffs.

Sell High

Ryan Mathews

Another returning star of the sell high section, I just do not trust Mathews moving forward as a viable starting back. Before exploding this week for 109 yards and two touchdowns, Mathews had failed to crack double digit fantasy points in each of the previous four weeks. The match up against Atlanta was a nice treat for Mathews owners on Sunday, but upcoming games against Seattle, Green Bay and Cincinnati will not be as easy.

Willie Snead

I once had the Need for Snead, but not anymore. This is more of a gut call for me. I like the guy quite a bit, but still prefer Michael Thomas and Brandin Cooks long term. This was Snead’s best game since his breakout performance in week one and much of his point total against the Broncos was dependent on his two touchdowns, as he was only able to accumulate 47 receiving yards.

Michael Floyd

The promising young receiver in Arizona finally broke 100 receiving yards in one game for the first time all season. Chalk this one up to a good match-up against the 49ers and a little luck for the Notre Dame alum. With Minnesota looming next week I don’t expect his value will increase and I’m selling him any place I get the chance.

That’s it for this week’s challenge. Make sure to stop by next week to find out if I’m able to trade away or for any of these players and listen to the Fantasy Life OG Podcast.
