Buy Low Sell High Weekly Challenge

This isn’t your typical Buy Low/Sell High column. Here at the Fantasy Life App Blog we take fantasy football to another level because as our name suggests — this isn’t a game, this is real life! Well, it is a game, but we take it way too seriously and keeping with that theme I will be taking this column way too seriously by making it my mission to either buy or sell at least one of my six featured players each week.

Last week’s challenge was to either buy low on Antonio Brown, Eddie Lacy and Carlos Hyde or sell high on Case Keenum, Terrance West and Jay Ajayi.

I completed the challenge by trading for Carlos Hyde and Cameron Artis-Payne in exchange for Ryan Mathews and Martellus Bennett. Hyde is out for this week, but I made the trade to strengthen my playoff roster and handcuff Jonathan Stewart. The headline here is my terrible Jay Ajayi call, as he went on to have another 200 yard rushing day becoming one of only four players in NFL history to rush for more than 200 yards in back-to-back games. It seems that as long as Miami’s offensive line is healthy, that Ajayi should be considered an RB1 most weeks moving forward.

Now let’s get to this week’s players that I will challenge myself to either buy low or sell high this week!

Buy Low

Jordy Nelson

Aaron Rodgers finally eclipses 300 yards passing for the first time this season and somehow only nine of those yards go to Nelson?!?! This was the second straight week that Nelson failed to find the end zone after scoring at least one TD in each of the Packers’ first four games. Couple that with the ridiculous game from Davante Adams this week and you could be looking at a vulnerable Nelson owner in your league. Strike while the stock is low. I still believe that Nelson is the top receiver to own in Green Bay and with favorable match ups against Atlanta and Indianapolis upcoming, now is the time to snag him.

Allen Robinson

Speaking of under-performing receivers that have now gone two straight weeks without a touchdown. Robinson owners should be getting thoroughly frustrated by now.

I am one of those frustrated owners myself, but I am keeping the faith! Talent and volume is what it comes down to for my trust in Robinson. He had a terrible game this week, but still led the team with eight targets. Jacksonville should continue to be playing from behind this season and better days are ahead for this receiver.

Terrelle Pryor

The Cleveland Browns were dealt yet another injury to the QB position this week and forced to play the Stanford rookie, Kevin Hogan. At this point the Browns QBs look more cursed than the Hogwarts Defense Against the Dark Arts professors.

Pryor was questionable heading into this game and definitely didn’t look 100 percent throughout the game. There could be some owners in your league that see the stat line and assume that there is a lack of chemistry between Pryor and Hogan. I’m confident that a healthier Pryor will continue to receive the lion’s share of targets. I don’t expect him to be a WR1 as he has performed many weeks because I’m slightly nervous for Corey Coleman’s integration into the offense, but I still think he is a low end WR2 with upside. Use the Coleman returning soon news to your advantage when trying to scare the Pryor owner to trade him to you.

Sell High

Matt Forte

Forte did it all on Sunday. He combined for more than 150 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns in leading his team to a much needed victory over the Baltimore Ravens. So why am I not buying it? First of all, it took a ton of volume for Forte to get his 100 yards rushing with 30 carries putting him at only 3.33 yard per carry on the day. Even if the Jets do decide to continue pounding the ball with Forte, it’s difficult for a 30 year old RB to keep that pace without injury. I’m selling Forte at a high price while I have the chance.

LeGarrette Blount

The Patriots had a plan to defeat the Pittsburgh Steelers and they executed that plan efficiently as the Patriots normally do. After seeing Ajayi rip apart the Steelers run defense last week, Belichick decided to do the same with Blount this week. 127 yards on 24 carries and two TDs is extremely impressive, but I just don’t trust Blount to be a consistent fantasy asset. Last week it was James White with the big game, this week it was Blount. He will no doubt have more mulit-TD games in his future, but I’d rather avoid the figuring out when and trade him at peak value.

Cordarelle Patterson

I’ve included Patterson this list because there could be a few owners in your league that remember Matthew Berry hyping up Patterson in his rookie year. Berry is the senior fantasy analyst at the biggest sports network in the world and it would be silly to not consider that Berry’s analysis will shape some of your fellow owners’ opinions on players. This is an interesting sell high candidate because I am intrigued by Patterson and have always thought he was a talented receiver, but I don’t trust Minnesota to utilize him efficiently and I expect Stefon Diggs to take back a larger role as the number one target as he starts to get healthy.

That’s it for this week’s challenge. Make sure to stop by next week to find out if I’m able to trade away or for any of these players and listen to the Fantasy Life OG Podcast.
