Last Week:
Torrey Smith vs. Tyler Lockett — Loss
Jay Cutler vs. The Field — Loss
Matthew Stafford vs. Carson Palmer — Win
Week One Record: 1–2
Season Record: 1–2

After a wildly entertaining first installment of football, week two will hopefully be just as swell. Like always, a new week means more big start/sit decisions. This weekly column serves to help Fantasy Life App users make those tough calls and win their weeks. Let’s get into the questions.

@joebenedict1369 asked: “Eddie Lacy or Golden Tate? PPR league.”

The Pick: Golden Tate

My love for both Eddie Lacy and the Lions’ offense has been well-documented throughout the off-season and week one — making this decision a tough one. Both players have plus match ups (at Minnesota and vs. Tennessee, respectively), and I expect both to produce. What would set these two apart is a touchdown, but such an occurrence is impossible to predict. The next best thing is determining which player the scoring favors. The answer to that question, of course, is Tate in a full PPR league. Last week Tate amassed seven receptions for 41 yards. While the yards will no doubt increase, the catches do not have to decrease. Tate has a high floor with an ever-present Jim Bob Cooter-based high ceiling. A final note: Do not discount Lacy who will be a good running back play in all formats this week.

@b21smitty asked: “PPR Maclin or DT?”

The Pick: Jeremy Maclin

Ever since joining the Chiefs, Maclin has overcome obstacles and denied doubters on his way to becoming a true number one wide receiver. In week one Maclin produced a 5–63–1 stat line against decent Chargers cornerbacks. This week, Alex Smith’s favorite target will again see a plethora of targets — this time against the Texans. Unlike the 2015 Wild Card game blowout, Kansas City will actually throw the ball. Maclin’s only concern has really ever been injury, but when comparing him to Demaryius Thomas, Maclin is clearly the one to start. Thomas has been dealing with a hip ailment since opening night, and it’s been worrisome to see him limited all week because of it. Labeled questionable, it’s possible that he doesn’t even play, or even worse for fantasy owners, Thomas could have numbered snaps. Safety and upside are pointing in Maclin’s favor.

@dbrown1022 asked: “Start LeGarrette Blount or Willie Snead in Flex position?”

The Pick: Willie Snead

Last week, LeGarrette Blount was the only feature runner in New England’s backfield, and he achieved fantasy success because of it. However, his lowly 3.2 yards per carry doesn’t inspire weekly confidence, albeit the last contest was against a tough Arizona defense. Still, his between the tackles, power running style doesn’t provide him with a high ceiling, and can any Patriots running back be guaranteed a high floor? Willie Snead, on the other hand, has a higher floor and ceiling than Blount this week. Last season when the Saints played the Giants, the final score was 52–49. In that game, Snead went for 6–70–2. This year, while the touchdowns may or may not be unsustainable, I expect the yardage (and probably receptions) to go up, and for Snead to lead Saints wide receivers in fantasy points. In general, I’d start as many Saints and Giants as I can this week.
