We are now in Week 5 of the NFL season, which means over a quarter of the season is already gone and many of you are still searching the waiver wire for a quarterback on a weekly basis. Lucky for you the position is absolutely loaded this year with talent and you can find plenty of startable QBs on your waiver wire every single week. Between injuries, bye weeks and disappointing starts to the season, now is the time to grab yourself a QB who can get you a W this week and moving forward. Here I’ll highlight a few guys who I think have the best chance to go off this week by taking advantage of some great matchups.

Blake Bortles at Kansas City

I think its officially time that the Bortles hate stops. He has continued to show that when the Jags need him to win them a game he can get it done. With Leonard Fournette sidelined for at least a couple weeks, now is the time to grab Bortles off the waiver wire. In his career, Bortles has actually played much better without Fournette on the field than with him. Without his workhorse back Bortles will be forced to throw a lot more which is exactly what you want from your Fantasy QB. The Jags passing attack couldn’t have asked for a better matchup this week against the 27th ranked Chiefs pass defense that has been torn apart all season, and with star QB Patrick Mahomes leading that high flying offense Bortles may be chasing points all game, racking up yards and touchdowns for your fantasy team.

Alex Smith at New Orleans

Smith and the Redskins head to New Orleans for a prime time matchup with the Saints and their 30th ranked pass defense on Monday night. The Saints defense has allowed 2 QBs to score 50 points. Yes, you read that right, 50 points in just four games played! The front seven can’t get to the QB, which should allow Smith to carve up that Swiss cheese like secondary. Coming off of a bye week the Redskins should be feeling fresh and ready to go in a game that could easily turn into a shootout against one the leagues best offenses. Smith throwing the ball downfield will be the Redskins only hope to match the Saints high powered attack and against that poor secondary Smith should have a lot of success on Monday night.

Derek Carr at Los Angeles Chargers

It has been a strange start to the season for Carr. He is averaging more than 340 yards a game, but only has six touchdowns on the year. He clearly has been able to move the ball up and down the field but has just gotten unlucky when it comes to getting into the end zone, until last week when he threw four TDs and led the Raiders to a thrilling come from behind win over the upstart Browns. This week he gets to face a Chargers defense giving up an average 26 points per game to QBs through Week 4 and even allowed 49ers QB C.J. Beathard to eclipse 20 points last week in his first start of the year. With Amari Cooper still flashing signs of greatness, Jordy Nelson looking like his old self again and Jared Cook snagging balls down the middle, Carr has the weapons to continue to put up big numbers all year long.

Marcus Mariota at Buffalo Bills

In his return to action last week Mariota showed up to play, throwing for 344 yards and two TDs while also picking up 46 rushing yards and another score with his legs. This is exactly what people were expecting from him coming out of college, and when healthy he has been as good as advertised. With second year wideout Corey Davis finally breaking out Mariota may have finally found that No. 1 wide receiver he’s been waiting for his whole career. This week the Titans are facing a bad Bills team who cant stop anyone, this game could get ugly fast and I think Mariota will benefit the most from this tasty matchup.
