CFP National Championship Presented by AT&T: Alabama Crimson Tide vs Georgia Bulldogs (-3) O/U 52.5

Phil: My heart and the fan in me wants me to desperately pick Georgia….but my brain will absolutely not let me pick against Saban in this big of a spot. It will be interesting to see how Kirby Smart adjusts after the barrage a few weeks ago on both sides of the ball. I would like to see more aggression from their defense, particularly in the alignment of their corners. On the offensive side, a key man to watch for Georgia is George Pickens. He should be fully healthy and an elite weapon to go along with Brock Bowers, the dominant freshman tight end. Stetson Bennett doesn’t need to be other worldly for Georgia to pull off the upset, but will have to make a couple of big throws and pick up a few first downs with his legs. I am focusing on Georgia here because Alabama knows who they are and what they need to do….give Bryce Young some time and the playmakers will do the rest. Hate to say it and it makes me sad to write, but this one will come down to Bryce Young making “the” play to win this game in the third or fourth quarter. Alabama pulls away late, despite a great effort from the Bulldogs. Pick: Alabama (+3)

Matt: It all comes down to this! After the entirety of Bowl season Phil and I are both in play to take home the first ever Blogger Bowl. Luckily for you, I’m going to go against Phil and give this one a shot. I’m on the Bulldogs tonight. I think the SEC Championship was a bit of a trap game for Georgia, as motivated as they might have thought they were, knowing they were a lock for the playoff it was never going to be as easy to get up for that game as it was for Bama, whose back was against the wall. This feels like the Clemson/ND rematch of last year or the Bama/LSU rematch of in the National Championship a few years ago. Georgia got out to a fast start in the title game, a couple things went wrong and it spiraled. This time, without John Metchie in uniform for the Tide, it’s going to easier for Georgia to defend. They have the defensive front to slow down the run AND give extra attention to Jameson Williams. Stetson Bennett concerns me a little, but I don’t think he’ll be asked to do as much as he was in the SEC title game and come from behind. If Georgia gets out to a 10–0 lead, I don’t think they blow it again. Bama has the Head Coaching advantage by far, but I think Georgia is fielding the better team. Pick: Georgia -3
