The draw of the MFL10

Until a couple of weeks ago, I had never participated in an MFL10. This morning I’ve already started my third. For those of you like me who might not have really ever heard of one of these, essentially this is what an MFL10 is.

MFL10 bro!

Per the MFL website:

  • Slow e-mail style drafts with up to eight hours per pick. These are NOT Live Drafts.
  • 16 or 20 Rounds with a Serpentine Draft. The draft order is randomly assigned after the league fills up.
  • The draft can last as long as two weeks to complete all 16 or 20 rounds.
  • Starting Lineup = 1 QB, 2 RB, 3WR, 1 TE, 1 Flex (RB/WR/TE), 1 Defense. There are no Kickers in Draft-Only, but a Kicker starter in Weekly Management.
  • There is no limit to the number of MFL public leagues you can join, but one team per league is the rule.
  • For Draft-Only Leagues, your best lineup is automatically used each week. Weekly Management leagues require a weekly lineup and add/drops can be made.
  • Refer to the links on the left for details about Scoring Rules, Terms of Service, etc.

An easy $10 Entry Fee buys you a chance at a $100 Cash Prize for a first place finish in your MFL 10s league.

My drug of choice has been the Draft-Only leagues. And they are exactly that, draft ONLY. If you just want to out-draft your opposition and prove your drafting mettle without worrying about any in-season weekly lineup management, then Draft Only leagues are for you. If you are tired of mock draft participants dropping out after round four, give these leagues a try. Not only is everyone invested in a real draft, but there’s cash to be won!

Set it and forget it!

The MFL10 Draft only league is the crock pot of fantasy football. You set it and forget it. In this game, you are awarded for a good draft. I’m still getting the feel of these things, and I’ve been playing alongside some relatively heavy hitters in the Fantasy Football world.

I’ve been using MFL’s Website to supplement my ADP stats for quite some time, but this is a really fun and exciting way to get some real draft experience while potentially making a little scratch for your fantasy football bank roll next season. You can start your own, or join a public one on the MFL homepage.

Strategy?

I don’t know. I’m still trying to figure it out personally. What can cloud your judgement is that you’ll lull yourself into reaching for a sub par player under the guise of thinking that he will have a few big weeks, but luckily I have that other guy to make up for it in those other weeks. Make sense? Exactly. This kind of format will have you questioning your traditional judgement and your traditional rankings. Boom and Bust players are essentially less risky in these formats. So even guys like Josh Gordon will move as early as the 10th round.

But some formulas hold true always. Invest in Consistency. Take as few risks as possible. Make sure you draft a second defense to cover you in a bye week. And that’s all I got for you.

If you’re not playing one yet, why not?
