Picks & Preview for Monday’s NHL slate

Back at it again with the hockey picks and thanks to Martin Luther King Day we have ourselves some daytime hockey! A few big value plays out there today that we’re going to take some shots with and a few outside the box plays. I used FanDuel today for my lines, if you haven’t signed up with them today you can do that HERE and get a risk free bet up to $1,000 when you sign up and deposit.

L.A. Kings -1.5 (+210) vs Sharks

The first of my value plays today. The Kings are coming into this one having won four games in a row, all of which have been by two or more goals. They’ve allowed just four goals in that stretch, so they’re playing well defensively and getting very good goaltending. And two of those wins came over a pair of playoff teams. The Sharks have dropped two in a row. They continue to hover just above .500 this season, taking care of the bad teams and struggling against the better teams. The way the Kings are playing defensively and the Sharks not having the most potent offense makes me love the +210 value here.

Blackhawks -1.5 (+210) at Kraken & Alex DeBrincat OV 0.5 Goals (+138)

I’m sure there has to be something I’m missing here, but this number seems way too high to pass up on. The Blackhawks have struggled to get up near .500 after that 0–9–1 start, but as of late they’ve played good hockey. They’ve won four straight, Marc-Andre Fleury is coming off a shutout and playing really well. Patrick Kane is starting to heat up a little bit after his slow start. The Kraken have lost 9 in a row and 12 of their last 13. So +210 odds here are too good to pass up. As for DeBrincat, he’s in the top 5 in goal scoring in the NHL this season, hasn’t scored in his last two games so I think it’s worth a shot to take him at +138 to net one.

Cale Makar OV 0.5 Goals (+240) vs Wild

Cale Makar is quickly becoming the best defenseman in the NHL and will be for quite some time. He’s got 16 goals in 31 games, has electric speed and skill for anyone, not just a defenseman. He hasn’t scored in the last two games, so as odd as it sounds for a defenseman, he’s due. At +240 odds it’s absolutely worth a flier on Makar to get back on the board today vs Minnesota
