Thomas Mogensen joins FANZONE as part of the Hall of Fame from SG Flensburg-Handewitt. He went back to Denmark after winning the Bundesliga title. He said he was able to once again ignite his passion for handball but decided to retire after the 2021/2022 season. As a player of his class there is no question he played for the Danish National Team as well. In his 106 games for the National Team he became European Champion in 2012 and vice European champion in 2014.

Overall he made 549 games for the SG Flensburg-Handewitt and scoring 1869 field goals. Meanwhile he only scored 13 7-metre goals during his 11 years in Germany. Mogensen was aa constant in the team, as he played a minimum of 26 Bundesliga games in every season. 5 seasons saw him play every one of the 34 Bundesliga games. In his 356 Bundesliga games he scored 1203 goals, which puts him fourth in the clubs all-time scorer list. He is in fourth in the list of most games played for the team from Flensburg as well, making him a more than worthy hall of fame player.

Last drop: Goalkeeper Jan Holpert

Rarely anyone is as synonymous with the SG Flensburg-Handewitt as Jan Holpert is. Born in Flensburg in 1968, the goalkeeper made his debut in the Handball Bundesliga in 1986 for the TSV Milbertshofen. Even before joining the team from Flensburg he had already won the DHB Pokal and the European Cup of Cup winners. From 1993 onwards he would play for the team from the north of Germany. During his time there he would become the identification figure for the fans from Flensburg.

He continued his successful career by winning the EHF Pokal in 1997, the City Cup in 1999 and the European Cup of Cup Winners in 2001. On a national level, Holpert and his team won 5 vice championships in a row, before finally winning the Bundesliga title in 2004. A successful career wound down, with a DHB Pokal title in 2005 and two vice championships in 2005 and 2006. The legend played his last official match in June of 2007.

This match was thought to be his last, but when Flensburgs keeper suffered an injury, Holpert returned to the court in October 2007. Against polish champion MKS Zaglebie Lubin he made his last official match and did it on an international stage. As a top-tier goalkeeper he also played for the German National team with the 3rd place at the European Championships in 1998. He continued his work for the SG behind the scenes, being active as the coach for the goalkeepers, before focussing on his role as coach for upcoming goalkeepers in the Flensburg academy, the youth department of the club.

At the end of his career, his record is very impressive. 625 games in the Bundesliga alone, 506 for the SG Flensburg Handewitt. With that, he held the record for most games played, until it was beaten by Carsten Lichtlein in 2019. He also holds the record for the most saved 7-metres. 476 saved shots earned him the name “Siebenmeterkiller” and a worthy introduction in to the “Hall of Fame “ from the SG Flensburg-Handewitt.
