When we hear the word automation, we might think of big robotic arms in factories. But nowadays workplace automation is the new way to move forward. Whether being a small company striving to grow or a large one working toward optimization, automating business processes helps to free up humans from doing repetitive simple tasks and enables them to tackle more complex tasks. So here is a quick overview of a couple of ways that automation has improved our everyday work life:

Example of simple automation: Email marketing.

There are so many automated email marketing softwares out there, such as MailChimp, that allows companies to tailor their marketing campaigns to their liking and needs. Once contacts are added to the software, the campaign is ready to start. The software can then be configured to set up automated follow-up emails. Generated statistics can then help with adapting marketing campaigns in order to see what is working for your business.

Example of more sophisticated usages of artificial intelligence (AI) for automation.

Using more advanced technology such as AI to automate certain tedious business processes allows companies to focus their resources on tackling more complex tasks such as growing the business. For example, companies are adapting AI automation technologies for a more organic human experience such as making their customer support chatbots adopt more human-like interaction by adding delayed time to answer, making it seem like the chatbot is thinking. Adding small talk serves as another example of more human-like interaction which helps to show off the company spirit. The ability of these software programs to learn and adapt increases the number of tasks you can automate. This technology can be used in so many domains such as HR, sales, customer support, lead collection, and many more. Generating data then allows companies to make calculated decisions for their businesses with greater precision, all data-driven.

Automation remains a touchy subject for some people, often resulting in the “fear of robots coming for their jobs”. In fact, there is no doubt that automation will change the way we work not by taking the jobs away but by refining the way we work. There are so many ways to use the automation of day-to-day workplace operations to your advantage. Automation is already becoming a common practice in businesses. Whether it’s providing good customer service, streamlining the hiring process, or more efficiently managing marketing campaigns, automation is already playing a role in many businesses. As technology improves, more tasks will become available for automation as well; we’ve only seen the beginning of workplace automation. Technology will never replace humans, but it will help them to focus on things that require more creativity and human touch.
