Bring Your Dream

Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial
“Out of the mountain of despair, a stone of hope” — Martin Luther King Jr.

Much like the civil rights leader himself, this sight is monumental. The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. There is no fee to visit. Marvel at the breathtaking landmark that mirrors Dr. King, and absorb the feelings of hope that radiate from this historical structure. Standing next to this memorial instantly reignites a fire of passion and determination from within. Martin Luther King Jr. was able to move and influence a number of highly influential leaders to bring about change. After you leave here, you’ll be ready to move mountains too.

Visit the Lincoln Memorial at the National Mall, and get a two-for-one special with this one. Tourists can physically stand exactly where Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his “I Have a Dream” speech in 1963. The marker was placed in 2003 to mark the 40th anniversary of the speech. You’ll have to climb some steps to get there. You’ll find this marker on the eighteenth step from the top landing of the Lincoln Memorial. Try not to wear yourself out. You’ll have some pretty big shoes to fill when you reach it.

Cheers to the Civil Rights Leader in Washington, D.C.

When Martin Luther King Jr. said, “ I have a dream”, I’m pretty sure he was dreaming of a day when people from all walks of life could come together and buy some rounds. So, “Have a Dream” and a drink.

Washington, D.C. is a city that is not only known for politics, but also their incredible bar talent. Although we are in a pandemic, and bars are struggling to keep the doors open, there are plenty of cool bars open and ready to craft you a top-notch cocktail. Check out the list below, and add these gems to your Bar Bucket List.

Round Robin Bar

“Historically” Cool

Round Robin Bar at the Willard InterContinental

It only makes sense to kick off our list with the most presidentially-boozed bar in America’s most politically-charged city. Established in 1847, this bar has had a front row seat to all of the nation’s history. Additionally, bartenders have poured up for some people that are “kind of a big deal”. #anchorman

Presidents such as Lincoln, Taft, Coolidge, and Wilson have pulled up a seat at this bar to discuss politics over whiskey. Some other famous customers include Walt Whitman, Mark Twain, and Buffalo Bill. To say the least, you’re drinking in good company at this spot. Introduced by Senator Henry Clay in 1851, order D.C.’s first Mint Julep with Kentucky Bourbon. Trust, after one of these, you’ll be feeling real presidential.

POV

“Visually” Cool

POV at the W Hotel

Think bottle service with a view of the White House. Because at POV, that’s exactly what you’re going to get. This swanky bar on the covered roof of the W Hotel serves you creatively-crafted cocktails with a side of unparalleled panoramic views of Washington, D.C. With floor-to-ceiling retractable windows, you’re good no matter when you visit. If you travel to the city during the cooler months, this covered rooftop bar is perfect for sips and sites while you stay warm. If you’re there in the warmer months, stay cool with a fresh breeze from the Potomac river. Don’t leave this bar without trying their specialty cocktail, “Yes We Can.” After that, you can drop the mic and #ObamaOut.

The Board Room

“Nostalgically” Cool

The Board Room

Remember when everyone wasn’t on their smartphones, and we actually played hands-on games? No? Me either. But, bring that mojo back at the Board Room bar in the Dupont Circle neighborhood. This bar encourages you to get off your phone and interact. With an extensive collection of board games, you’re bound to find your childhood favorite. For $2, you can rent classic favorites like Operation and Hungry Hungry Hippos. Or keep up with the times, and rent Cards Against Humanity for some raunchy fun. You can even discover something new with vintage games you’ve never even heard of. For my beer folks, you’re in luck. Beer is the main beverage here, but wine and cocktails are served as well. It’s #gameon at this cool spot.

Soak up the Booze

Original Chili Half Smoke at Ben’s Chili Bowl

Before you wave “Bi-den” to President Trump, soak up the booze at D.C.’s best known hotdog joint, Ben’s Chili Bowl. This iconic and historic landmark typically has lines outside the door, but it’s justified. These chili cheese dogs have been coined as some of the best in the country by food enthusiasts, celebrities, and tourists alike. Open since 1958, this hotdog spot has served an impressive lists of guests. You’ll see pictures of comedians Chris Rock and Dave Chapelle (just to name a few) on the walls of the restaurant. President Barack Obama ate lunch there ten days before his inauguration. It was his first stop upon arrival, and he’s been in love ever since, as he frequents there often. We’re willing to bet you’ll fall in love with them too. Don’t forget to do it for the ‘gram. Give Ben’s a thumbs up, and get your selfie in front of this iconic landmark’s mural. #benschilibowl4thewin
