Seeking out a local farm is a great way to spend your post-Thanksgiving time (and money)! Many farms sell products year-round — from greenhouse greens to storage crops and, in warmer states, the season is just ramping up!

Below, we share a few inspiring farmers to splurge on this Black Friday. Food is, after all, the gift that keeps on giving!

VEGGI Farmers Cooperative, Louisiana

VEGGI is a farmers cooperative based out of New Orleans East, Louisiana. Their 6 farmers produce heirloom vegetables native to New Orleans and historic to the Vietnamese community. The farm uses no-spray and sustainable practices.

Cully Neighborhood Farm, Oregon

Led by notable farmer and the author of Compact Farms Josh Volk, Cully Neighborhood Farm is a one-acre farm oasis in the Cully neighborhood of Northeast Portland. Using sustainable and ecological growing methods, they offer CSA shares and more.

Gorgeous Goat Farm, New Jersey

The Gorgeous Goat creamery produces goat milk cheeses, goat milk, goat milk skin care, and offers many unique experiences for locals to interact with their animals.

Their goats roam outdoors, helping to manage their forest ecosystem by eating invasive plants in the forest, while fertilizing the soil.

We recommend: A hike with the goats or any of their delicious cheese products.

Garden Next Door, Ohio

Garden Next Door is a homestead operation that grows a selection of vegetables year-round. They have a particular interest in salad ingredients: spinach, lettuce, greens of all sorts, turnips, radishes and more. The farm also offers fresh eggs and honey.

Owl’s Roost Farm, Illinois

Cold Illinois winters are no challenge for Owl’s Roost Farm. They offer a winter CSA share that runs November-May offering “potatoes, onions, garlic, dry beans, and mushrooms right through deep winter, as well as greens and roots in the shoulder seasons.”

Owl’s Roost also offers a local composting program and growers education.

Black Mountain Farm is a small diversified farm in the foothills above San Diego. They specialize in pasture raised poultry for eggs and meat, as well as seasonal veggies. Get a behind-the-scenes look at how their raise their hens at @black_mtn_farm.

We recommend: Their heritage chicken. Try the chicken feet for a gelatinous broth during cold winter months.

This Midwest based market garden in Raymore, Missouri offers a wide array of resh produce and eggs throughout the year.

The family-owned farm embraces all-natural, chemical-free agricultural practices. Delivery is available!

Chesed Farm, Washington

Chesed Farm is a strategically located network of hyper-local food, and is often the first choice in the Walla Walla, WA community for premium, fresh produce, and gourmet mushrooms.

They offer weekly and biweekly subscriptions for mushrooms, microgreens, and a collaborative offering of ingredients to make delicious omelets — think eggs, green onions, garlic, and fresh herbs.
