Hearty Roots Farm’s market-style CSA allows their Brooklyn and Hudson Valley members to choose the exact item they want, which helps members feel more connected to their food.

Did you know that when you buy food at the grocery store, farmers make, on average, 15 cents for every dollar you spend? But when you buy food directly from the farmer through a CSA program, or at the Farmers Market, the farmer gets to keep the whole dollar. (On GrownBy, our farmers keep 98% of every purchase!)

With monopolistic companies influencing prices and controlling nearly every aspect of farm production, Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) programs are more important than ever.

Whether it’s a weekly vegetable box, or a pick-your-own herb share, CSA programs offer a unique opportunity for families to forge stronger relationships with their food, the land, and the people who cultivate it.

CSA programs remove the middleman, which mean fresher food for the customer, and full financial profit for the farm.

The mutually beneficial relationship of CSA programs removes the middleman. This ensures that farmers can focus their time in the fields, rather than spending time delivering to distributors that cut into their profits. The customer, in turn, knows where and from whom their food came from, and gets to enjoy fresh, local food that tastes better than the grocery store equivalent.

Join us on a journey across the country as we explore the GrownBy farms dedicated to building a healthier, more connected (and resilient) future for food through their robust CSA programs.

Let’s dig in!
