The use of oregano was widely proliferated by the Romans due to its flavor and its easy cultivation. It is mostly found in Mediterrenean regions however, you might just be lucky to find it in the rural communities in Western Nigeria as Missionaries plant it due to its vast properties.

In Nigeria, it’s foundly known as “Efirin”(Scent Leaf) and here are 3 reasons why you should plant Oregano in your home without stress….

  1. Maintenance

Oregano is so easy to maintain and grow. You can literally just cut a stem from your friends garden and replant in yours. In about two weeks, you have full grown leaves when its transplanted and in about 6- 8 weeks, you can literally start a mini spice factory! It’s however advised that you should grow oregano in free-draining soil or compost in a sunny, sheltered spot.

2. Verstaility

From it’s anti-snake properties to it’s fragrant aromas in meals and anti — inflammatory properties when used in oils or teas, Oregano is definitely a herb that’s needed in every home.

3. Medicinal Properties

The name “oregano”comes from the Greek words “oros,” meaning mountain, and “ganos,” meaning joy. Not only does the meaning have a literal impact, it has a vast range of medicinal benefits.

It’s oil is an effective natural antibiotic and antifungal agent, and it can help you lose weight, ease aches, indigestion and lower your cholesterol levels. Not withstanding this, it’s also used in teas to help relieve cramps and promote sleep when used in a diffuser.
