Wearables on the Runway
Casely — Hayford A/W15 Show
London — home of iconic fashion designers, impeccably stylish men and, increasingly, wearable tech innovation. It was only a matter of time before these three came together. The Casely — Hayford A/W15 Show at London Collection: Men did just that.
The London based father and son design duo formed Casely-Hayford in 2009 to convey their vision of London style to an international audience. Their signature look fuses sportswear with tailoring and high art with street culture, realized by combining the finest craftsmanship with new technology.
The A/W15 show, titled the Runaways, drew inspiration from a group of runaways, seeking an alternative existence outside the narrow confines and limitations of modern city life. Indeed, the looks were unexpected, brave and fresh. Models walked down the runway wearing Casely — Hayford’s signature suits as well as wool oversized hooded knits and leather and nylon “Defleated Down” jackets. This season the design duo presented three unique collaborations — developing footwear, eyewear and wearable tech.
Needless to say I was most excited to see Casely — Hayford’s collaboration with Nifty’s XOO belt. The XOO belt is a smartphone — charging belt that is worth wearing. Combining style and function, the belt is available in two ranges — classic XOO belt and the Casely — Hayford XOO range which includes a fake rabbit fur belt with electric blue vegetan leather.
Having previously addressed some of the challenges of wearable tech, I was delighted to see that the Nifty team had designed the XOO belt as a wearable that puts elegant design at the forefront and can be customized to suit any wardrobe. Don’t just take my word for it — my friend Anton (and editor of The Style Division) was equally impressed with the Casely — Hayford x Nifty collaboration. Can you make a women’s line already?
So perhaps you don’t need to go to CES to see a fashionable wearable. Next year, why not fly to London instead?
