Dolce and Gabanna — Massimalismo

Dolce & Gabbana is an Italian fashion company that produces clothing, footwear, sunglasses, handbags, jewelry, perfume, and cosmetics. The company was founded by Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabban in 1985 in Milan, Italy.

Dolce & Gabbana presented their first collection during Milan Fashion Week in October of 1985. They did not make much of an impression in the fashion world, and barely had enough funds to produce their lines until their fourth collection. The advertising collection for this line was shot by Ferdinando Scianna in Sicily. The breakout piece from this collection was the “Sicilian Dress” which launched the fashion house into the fashion world.

In 1987, Dolce & Gabbana created a separate knitwear line, and two years later the launched a lingerie and beachwear collection. Soon after came the leotard collection and their underwear and swimming collections. In 1989 they began sales in the US, and opened a showroom in the US in 1990.

Dolce & Gabbana launched their men’s collection and their premier perfume, “Dolce & Gabbana”. In 1993, they partnered with Madonna to produce over 1500 outfits for the Girlie Show tour. In 1994, they launched their second major line, D&G.

In 2012, the two major lines merged.
