Karolína Kurková was born in Děčín, Czechoslovakia, on February 28, 1984. She began her modeling career when a friend of hers submitted her images to a modeling agency in Prague, and soon after landed a runway modeling job. She soon moved to Milan and landed a modeling contract with Prada.
Her modeling career really began to take off with an editorial in Vogue, and then a cover on the same magazine in February 2001. Around that time she was signed to walk the runway for Victoria’s Secret, at the age of just 16.
