Pierre Cardin is an Italian-born, French fashion designer, who launched his own fashion house in 1950 in Paris, France. His career took off when he was commissioned to design costumes for a masquerade ball in 1951 for Carlos de Beistegui. In 1953 Pierre Cardin launched his haute couture line.

In 1959, he launched one of the original ready-to-wear collections by a designer, and a year later did the same with a collection for men.

In the 60’s, Pierre Cardin began aggressive licensing techniques, including placing his logo on his garments, a custom that is standard now. Also during this decade, his designs featured a very modernistic style, launching the “Space Age Look”.

In 1971, he overhauled the Barong Tagalog, a national costume in the Phillippines.

The Story of Pierre Cardin:

“The only one who is alive today and still being talked about is Pierre Cardin.”

“I was very lucky, I was part of the post-war period when everything had to be redone.”

“They said pret-a-porter will kill your name, and it saved me.”

“I have a name, I have to take advantage of it.”
