The Oscars Fashion — Looks Everywhere Doing Everything All At Once

It was a night of theatrics, glitz, a champagne carpet and the who’s who of the It Crowd 2023. The night itself was tamer than last year for obvious reasons… but the looks were bolder, more dangerous and had a wow factor that we didn’t see back in 2022. Let’s take a closer look.

The Standouts

Cara Delevingne

And the winner of the best dressed at the 2023 Oscars goes to Miss Cara Delevingne! As a 2010’s teen, I am thrilled to see our favourite model back on the red carpet and SERVING. She went pure classic Oscars in a gorgeous redder-than-red ballgown by Ellie Saab. It was the yes we are here at the Oscars moment. It gave pure classic Hollywood, and that’s what this night is all about. The ONLY critique I have is that she could have pushed it a little further with a red lip, but other than that my look of the night.

Michelle Yeoh

The woman of the hour wearing a beautifully fringed white Dior gown that blended perfectly with the champagne carpet. It was chic yet subtle, giving absolute sophistication- the definition of what Michelle Yeoh is. Also, bang on trend for 2023 with the fringe.

Angela Basset

Miss Basset doing her thing. Giving us a purple Moschino dress, the dress was big, courageous and breathtaking. Again, a perfect fit for the actress in question. Bright colours are needed for nights like these, and we want larger-than-life actors to wear clothing that matches their vivacious personalities; Angela did not let us down.

Halle Bailey

The Gen-Zified on-trend look of the evening. A blue sheer Dolce & Gabbana gown that was made purely for Disney’s Ariel. This gown encompasses the actress and the time period we’re in and is a colour I expect to see more of moving into Spring.

Lady Gaga

Gaga did what Gaga does, she made us sit back and go huh?! At first, I was taken aback by the low-waisted almost Victorian skirt. However now I’ve had time to process it, I think I actually really like this look. The fact I’m questioning what it’s doing means it’s a moment. It’s giving bold and daring. If the night was simply classical looks it would be very dull indeed. This look gave me my quirky moment amongst the glamour. I’m also interested to see how this low-waisted Versace skirt that is literally fresh off the runway (worn only a couple of weeks back by Gigi Hadid) will translate into the mainstream- I guess time will tell.

The Trends

The trends coming out of this year's Oscars are bold colours, sheers, fringe and low-waisted skirts. All of these bar the low-waisted skirt have been predicted for some time, but it’s going to be exciting to see how the Spring trends will evolve with such striking looks coming out of the awards season.
