What is “The Force”?
“The Force” is a planned hard fork of the Foundation Chain of the Fast Access Blockchain. We are currently ahead of the development schedule. It will be introduced in two phases:
Phase 1: Basic Edition, end of August 2018/beginning of September 2018.
- Specific features will be deployed to meet user and market needs, prepare the network for listing on our new exchanges, and provide better security features against 51% attacks. This version does not have all the design elements of the white paper.
Phase 2: Full Implementation, Test version October 2018, Main net version end of 2018
- Will include all features outlined in the whitepaper
“The Force” was announced on March 28, 2018 by Founder and President of the FAB Foundation, Paul Liu.
A hard fork as it relates to blockchain technology, is a massive change to the protocol that makes previously valid blocks invalid (or vice versa) and creates a new protocol version. During a hard fork, nodes (or users) need to upgrade to the latest version of the protocol software.
During “The Force” hard fork, the forked chain will inherit all the data on the original chain and become the main chain of the network.
Why is it important?
The design laid out in the FAB whitepaper is specific in features to enable a decentralized platform for global enterprise-level applications.
Legacy blockchain networks have low transaction throughput and high transaction costs making them ill suited for large-scale application uses.
“The Force” will solve these big problems that prevent blockchain networks from being mass adopted by both businesses and individuals alike.
“The Force” will introduce scalabilty to the network, providing to 1 million transactions per second for quick payment settlements and data transfers.
Additionally, it will make blockchain development more accessible by introducing a development layer that makes blockchain application development and onboarding quick and easy for businesses of all sizes to create decentralized applications.
Finally, it introduces powerful features such as:
- interoperability with other blockchain networks such as Ethereum or NEM, allowing for cross chain transactions of cryptocurrency and data
- more than 1 million gigabytes of data storage
What technical innovations will “The Force” bring?
Currently there is no blockchain that is secure, decentralized and scalable. Some blockchains are quite secure and decentralized while lacking scalability, while other new innovators in the space have scalability and security features while lacking true decentralization (ex. the use of a limited number of validators). This is the main problem all blockchain projects are trying to solve.
Fast Access Blockchain has solved this problem through several unique innovations introduced in “The Force”. The fork will inherit all the data on the original Foundation Chain, which carries all the security features of the Bitcoin blockchain but will add Annex Chains, SCAR, KanBan and CCUA functions that were laid out in the whitepaper.
Annex Chains are similar to side chains and will carry a large number of transactions for a specific business use case, such as for an exchange, e-commerce transactions, supply-chain automation, an Internet-of-Things platform or a medical platform. There will be several thousand Annex Chains which will bare the transaction load, creating scalability.
Smart Contract Address Router (SCAR) is a unique account issued by a smart contract that executes transactions between the Annex Chains and Foundation Chain.
KanBan is designed to provide real-time updates and querying capabilities for the Annex-chain transactions in a global context without significantly increasing the burden on the Foundation Blockchain. It is a special module designed to prevent double-spending attacks and maintains decentralization across the network. Annex Chains are unable to be created to defraud users because Kanban validates all transactions.
The Cross Chain Unified Address (CCUA) protocol provides a convenient means for implementing transaction verification and simplifying the management of cross chain transactions. In fact, the CCUA is not limited to the FAB system only. It can be used as a universal cross-chain address protocol, adapted to any blockchains, for the implementation of generalized management for decentralized transactions. At this time, a new coin will be released.
How will “The Force” affect my Fabcoin?
During Phase 2 of “The Force”, a new coin will be created and be the official coin of the FAB project. Current coin holders will receive the same amount of the new coin as they currently hold of Fabcoin at that time. Details on the process will be released in the near future.
The new coin will be compatible with all the functions of the network.
