Former Alabama QB Jalen Hurts Announces Transfer to Oklahoma
Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray, and Jalen Hurts aren’t a bad trio of QB’s to come through Oklahoma.
In an essay written in the Players Tribune, Jalen Hurts announced his intentions to transfer to the University of Oklahoma on Wednesday. In this essay, Jalen said the following regarding his departure from Alabama and his incoming arrival at Oklahoma.
Now, I’m an alumnus of the University of Alabama. Now I’m Bama for LIFE — and that right there will never change! But now it’s also time for me to start a new chapter in my story. I’ve decided to take my talents to the University of Oklahoma, where I will continue my development as both a quarterback and as a student. I’m very fortunate to have this opportunity, and I’m excited for the journey ahead.
Hurts will be moving to Oklahoma as a graduate transfer, as he earned his degree last month and will be able to play immediately. He has one year of eligibility left, as he has three years under his belt playing for Nick Saban.
A two year starter, he had a whopping 26–2 record before he was benched for Tua Tagovailoa by choice at the start of this season. He has been in transfer news in college football for nearly a year now, as it was speculated that he may leave after he lost the starting role. Nevertheless, he remained patient through this year while he watched Tua shine all the way to being named runner- up Heisman Trophy candidate to Kyler Murray.
Hurts will be looking to return to the spotlight of college football following the departure of Kyler Murray, who will be entering the NFL draft. With Hurts ready to take over the lead role, it’s not unlikely that he will be a star with his new team.
Considering the offensive prowess of former East Carolina OC turned Oklahoma head coach, Lincoln Riley, who has led two QB’s in a row to win the Heisman Trophy, Jalen Hurts will be in good hands next season. And with plenty of talent across the whole roster, there’s no reason the Sooners shouldn’t be in contention for the College Football Playoffs once again.
