Twenty-Seven Random Political Thoughts
(From one who *was* right about every political thing; until I got Trump epically *wrong*)

- The Resistance is effectively in place; it will stay in place, perforce; it has more-or-less crippled Trump’s *domestic* agenda.
- It is time to now split our energies and start other actions, little activisms, etc. Until 2018. (Of course feeding the Resistance fire).
- Between now and at least 202 we should not splinter or fracture into warring factions. No using your energy to critique how someone else is using their energies in the Resistance as best they can.
- We’ll re-examine this cardinal point after 2020.
- I believe that, contrary to all opinion, that Trump will not go down from anything about Russia. The Russians have been kibitzing and trying to manipulate our elections since at least the 1940s. It’s nothing new.
- All this time they’ve always floated “fake information,” gone on fishing expeditions looking for possible soft political spots. In this case they found one with Jared Kushner who was dumb-enough to sniff it out.
- Immoral, yes. Reprehensible, of course. But all sides do this; always have; always will. NO reason to pin all of our hopes on that. Let alone a classically fake dossier with a “pee tape” in it!
- All these years the Right Wing has bought into these fishing expeditions and it made them chase down 10,000 rabbit holes. Not one of them *ever* panned out. And we could always laugh at this tail-chasing.
- If the investigation yields anything it would be around financial issues and conflicts of interest, of course. Even the Right Wing knows this *will* happen.
- However, in all likelihood these will not rise to the level of an impeachable offense. Moreover, after the bottoming out of the Russia fishing-expedition, the Republicans will have firmer ground to stand on in *not* taking this to impeachment. At all.
- And we will spend lost time then with our shorts in a wad, crying, complaining, raging, etc.
- I will now venture with trepidation onto ground that could get me kicked-out or disowned by our beloved art world — and the Left. The Civil War statues.
- Trump instinctively and with Bannon’s guidance successfully shifted the issue of HIS Moral Repugnance and utter incompetence in his evil responses to everything about Charlottesville.
- And we have run down a terrible rabbit-hole *following him*.
- I believe that all Civil War statues *should* be removed from the public sphere. I believe that these statutes should be in museums. Moreover, I firmly believe and think we ALL Know that all of these statues *WILL* be removed to museums.
- IN TIME.
- I believe NOW is not the time to make this a primary battleground. Now is NOT the time to place any purity tests on statues; a statue to Confederate War dead and a vast number of others in a gray area. And we all know that ALL Democrats embraced Slavery, fought to KEEP it. We all know that it was the Party of Lincoln, the Republicans who paid in blood to abolish it.
- We ALL know that it was Democrats who fought against integration in the deep south; they put up the monuments in question for obvious reasons. To intimidate, broadcast power, evil, etc. The Klan was primarily Democrat.
- Of course none of this is really about PARTY! It is about the Long American Night of Slavery and this country’s white-supremacism, white power, KKK, Neo-Nazis and so many other hate-groups.
- We can remain on the high-ground of his moral reprehensibility and failures and still address the statues. But right now we have all-but shifted positions to the Russia thing and statues.
- There’s more: I believe that by-now most so-called liberal media sources are as tainted and off as those on the Right. I find public radio and public television to be Peter-Paul-and-Mary political activism, down the the rhetoric, guests, everything. We LOVE our bubble; but it IS a bubble.
- I am afraid that MSNBC is no better; possible more damaging. Even my beloved Rachel spend her 18-minutes to get to one point, usually digging up all of interesting damning history. But often to talk about things we ALREADY know and believe and HAVE PROOF of. You want an extra detail or two to get outraged at your dinner-gathering this evening? Cool, MSNBC is fine. (Mind you I always loved Chris Matthews before this.)
- What of news then? I have found that by far the best source for a wide-array of THOUGHT (some of it very original) and not just *opinion* to be gleaned through a well-cultivated Twitter feed. I am too old to know how to do this on Facebook.
- For SOURCES my personal news habit is almost exclusively reading. I will tune into CNN for an hour maybe to get myself adequately and additional furious. But otherwise even CNN is basically people talking to people about what other people have talked about. Rabbit Hole.
- For those of you about to misrepresent me on my thoughts about all the statues, just remember that I get and have posted reams of hate mail and real threats everyday; I had that guy Milo the Nazi sick his mad minions on me several times; have been blocked by Donald Trump Jr. on Twitter; have had Sean Hannitty come after me and ALL of his; and even Curt Shilling and his people tear into me.
- I was wrong that Trump was beatable. I underestimated how Dark the American Night still is. I could easily be wrong about all of this.
- Things happen so fast these days, who knows.
