Sylvester McCoy and Ruby-May Martinwood respectively portray Dr. Angus McClurgy and Brenda Palmer in “Father Brown”

Every now and then, not always, you get one of those episodes that reveals a tit-bit of important information not previously known about one or more characters. It is typically an aspect of the character’s history which somehow shaped the personality we know.

This instalment, resonating with many people on a deeply personal level, is an exceptional Father Brown episode. It boldly addresses what it was that made Brenda Palmer the person she is and how she came to the Cotswolds.

Miranda Howard-Williams’ “The Hermit of Hazelnut Cottage” is arguably one of the best episodes of the current season. Notably, given we’re literally only three episodes into the eleventh season, a significantly high bar has been set. Moving forwards, naturally, our expectations will be heightened by what is seen and experienced here.

Numerous series, Father Brown included, rely heavily on guest talent to bring their A-game to each and every episode. Time and again, as series fans will recognise from previous instalments, some of the United Kingdom’s biggest stars of theatre, film, television. and radio have made their presence felt.
