Banking on Mr. Toad, directed by Luis Mandoki from a screenplay written by Timothy W. Haas, is currently scheduled for release in 2022. The film, with additional material penned by Wendy Oberman, is an origin story for the classic Kenneth Grahame written tale The Wind In The Willows.

Playing Kenneth Grahame is James D’Arcy. D’Arcy, best known in the United States for his work on the MCU television series Agent Carter as Edwin Jarvis, has been acting for television and film since at least the mid-1990s. Some of the actor’s earliest work includes Silent Witness, Dalziel and Pascoe, Ruth Rendell Mysteries, Wilde, and A Dance to the Music of Time.

The origin story, very much a character driven family drama, is about the British novelist, relates to his wife Elsie and their troubled young son Alastair. Many of Alastair’s health problems could not be properly treated at the time.

The family’s troubles are eased by the Wind in the Willows and its success. The “banking” part of the title alludes to the fact that Grahame was secretary of the Bank of England in 1908 when he penned his famous novel.
