How to Treat a Sore Throat in 3 Days

It’s officially rainy season, and we have a few casualties already. Before it gets worse, here are a few tips and tricks on how to clear your sore throat. The tips available have been compiled by our resident “tonsil girl”.

She has been recommended by doctors to take out her tonsils, but due to her crippling fear she has opted to battle chronic sore throats throughout the years rather than going under the knife. Her knowledge has equipped her to prevent sore throats and clear it as soon as possible. Here are five do’s and don’ts!

1. Don’t take antibiotics!

In many cases where there have been studies, sore throat is the largest contributor of inappropriate antibiotics prescription. Many people in the older generations assume that antibiotics will cure their sore throat. However, most sore throats are caused by a virus, not bacteria. Antibiotics won’t work for sore throats caused by a virus, so here is your official notice: don’t take antibiotics if you have a sore throat!

2. Don’t drink hot water.

This is also another myth, that if you have a sore throat you should drink hot tea, drink hot soup, and drink hot water day in and day out. False! Drinking hot water will create more inflammation in your throat. Drink room temperature water, that is neither too hot or too warm. Don’t drink hot coffee, or hot tea, or (the worst of all) hot chocolate. This will make your sore throat even worse. Room temperature water it the best option to go.

3. Get yourself a thermos.

Our office at FAZZ FINANCIAL is quite cold, so our drink will adapt to the room and be cold. Get a thermos to make sure your drink remains normal temperature. Drinking water is especially important when you have a sore throat. You must drink a lot and if it’s too cold you’ll just make it worst.

4. Sleep is priority number #1

The top two things you can do to combat sore throats are to drink water and get enough rest. If you have work, make it a priority to go home on time and sleep. There is simply no better medicine.

5. Eat rice with boiled eggs.

You also must pay attention to what you eat, because rough texture will make your sore throat worse. Avoid eating heavily seasoned, deep-fried, spicy food, such as indomie, bakwan malang, and uncooked vegetables. The best thing to eat are boiled food. To play it safe: Eat white rice and boiled eggs.

If you are desperate, and want extra counter measures, then here are the top three secret weapons:

1. Gargle Tantum Verde. Buy it in your local pharmacy, it cost twenty thousand rupiah. Gargle it every morning, after lunch, and before bed.

2. Drink an immonumodulator and vitamin c effervescent once a day until you feel better.

3. Drink Panadol effervescent every night before you go to sleep. This will sooth your throat and help you fall asleep.
