AI Saturdays (A16), Lagos

In the Silicon valley of Lagos, a totally free class on Artificial Intelligence is set to run for 14 Saturdays at a stretch. The first class held on Saturday, the 6th of January, 2018 with about 76 persons in attendance.

The pre-requisite rightly stated for the AI course, is some prior python programming experience and basic math knowledge. In this regard, people who didn’t have the required skills were given materials to upskill beforehand, which had everyone pretty much on the same page for the brush-up session on Linear Algebra and python programming.

A wide range of areas in Linear Algebra was addressed: Vectors- Linear combination, span and basis of vectors; linear transformations and matrices, the determinant of matrices, inverse matrices, column space and null space, dot products and duality etc.

A quick run down on python programming was done: the basic concepts, control structures, functions and modules, regular expressions, and basic data types (Containers, Lists, Dictionaries, Sets, Tuples) etc.

The participants were also taken through a step by step guide on setting up a Google Cloud machine for fast.ai

In the intense interaction during and even after the session, the sun had begun to hibernate, signifying the end of the day. The participants could have discussed longer, and they would… via the nurture.ai slack team, Facebook Developer circles Lagos and the AI MasterClass Nigeria Facebook group.

The next class is slated for Saturday, the 13th of January, 2018.

The facilitators for the class Femi Azeez, Tomiwa Ijaware and Tejumade Afonja, were awesome in their deliveries. Big thanks to nuture.ai for making this AI learning possible on AI Saturdays, and to Intel, Univelcity and Fbdevclagos for the warm support.

Thanks for the read, and for the claps!
