Want to boost your creativity? A peer-reviewed study from the University of Chicago stated that “a moderate level of ambient noise is conducive to creative cognition.” This simply means that people work better with white noise in the background. This information was used by a creative group of coffee shop lovers who created Coffitivity, an app that allows users to create a cheerful environment of a coffee shop. “In a coffee shop, the chatter and clatter actually distracts us a tiny bit and allows our creative juices to start flowing. It sounds crazy, but it works!” said Coffitivity. Throughout the years, this app has garnered the attention of the press and numerous universities who all agreed that Coffitivity can actually improve the creativity and productivity of workers.

Experts say:

“This site replicates the sound of a coffee shop to achieve the perfect combination of calm and commotion. It’ll help you get your creative juices flowing so you won’t feel stuck,” Business Insider wrote. Research done at the University of Illinois revealed that the ambient noise in a coffee shop, which is about seventy decibels, improved one’s performance to brainstorm ideas. “Extreme quiet tends to sharpen your focus,” said Ravi Mehta, an assistant professor at the University of Illinois. “This is why if you’re too focused on a problem and you’re not able to solve it.” Moderate levels of noise helps people think outside of the box, Mehta stated. However, one should carefully note that this mainly applies to creative tasks. Detailed work is best done in a quiet environment, he said.

Universities say:

“It creates a good study location,” the University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrote. Others agreed, saying that Coffitivity “actually helped boost creativity” and helps the user “come up with ideas and perform productive brainstorming.” However, the universities ultimately agreed that it depended on the individual to determine if Coffitivity was the right one. “If you’re one of the many people who can get more done at a coffee shop, give this app a try next time you need to re-create that experience,” said the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. “Ultimately each individual will determine their most productive place.”

Coffitivity prides itself as being the perfect addition to your workday arsenal. So try out Coffitivity today! Not only will you be able to experience the sounds of a lovely coffee shop, but you can also get your creativity flowing!
