7 Reasons Why More Men Should Wear Skirts
A plan to save all the sweaty scrotums of the world
When I was in high school, the boys would come dressed as cheerleaders during the final football game. The stunt was meant as a farcical twist on their masculinity. But the boys always made the same observation — hey, these skirts are actually pretty comfortable. (But they hated the heels.)
Five hundred years ago, rough and tumble boys wore skirts for this very reason.
In the painting below, that adorable child in the middle wearing a dress is the Duke of York (the future King James II). On the right is his sister, Princess Mary.
So why were boys and girls dressed identically?
To answer that question, imagine a world where your child has only a 1 in 3 chance of living past the age of five. With such high mortality rates, you might see your child as gender-neutral…like a fern, a pet rock, or a chia pet that has yet to grow hair. It might seem macabre today, but parents didn’t attach a gender to their child because they didn’t want to get attached.
