For more than 20 years I’ve had fantasies of getting him to apologize. Of confronting him. Even of confronting him on his deathbed, I confess.

I never did it. I was not fearless. And now it’s too late. All I have are some of his papers to shred and his medic-alert button to return to the manufacturer.
