Poetesses and Fashion

I never quite understood
Poetesses and fashion

But I do pack
My saffron and green dupattas

For me and my sister to wear
When we are out in the desert

Loudly humming how we are
Daughters
Of a free sun and a wild river

How we shall not rise
Only with a poem
But also with our colors

These skins of a red
Unchainable

These eyes of a new gold

Black sea at our feet

Our colorless pens
Slaying oppression

Our axes sharp with
Blades of our grandmothers
Gifting us our freedom
Held in their resilient veils
Flying on a moonless night.
