Finally, one day
amidst a loud crowd
she found herself
within the clarity
of her own reflection

taken aback
at the very sight
so powerful
she thought:

I understand
I understand why
for so many years
I have had to squeeze myself down
down into the hunchback of Notre-Dame
I’ve hunched and I’ve squeezed
into the representation of what you have wanted me to be

but this is me
right here
I will carve my own place
in our World
right now

In that moment
she stood up tall
met her own gaze
and realised
she can be silent no more
