1. Find a big company with a product or service you think is broken, flawed or absurdly overpriced.

2. Make a plan for how you would make it better. Strip out the unwanted features. Expose the flaws. Imagine only the things you absolutely want.

3. Validate your idea. Ask around. Test the market. Set up a market study. Do research. Call friends and family.

4. Set up your tools and incorporate the business. Gmail is free. Skype is free. Slack and Evernote are free. Your costs should be minimal at best.

5. Enlist the help of other soldiers. Find experienced experts in their respective fields. Get a developer to volunteer their time. Find a business mentor. Ask around the local university for design help.

6. Build your new product or service. Tell everyone about it. Give it away for free. Steal the market share.

7. Watch the big players scratch their heads.
