When building the front-end for software like Feather, it’s important to draw inspiration from a variety of sources throughout the design community, and fortunately for me, the community is flourishing with a collection of sociable designers who tweet, write or talk on podcasts about their work and their process.

Podcasts are the main way I occupy my commute each morning. It’s a way to stay relatively productive when I’m not able to do work.

Here’s a short list of recommended listens:

Design Details

Hosted by Bryn Jackson and Brian Lovin

Design Details is a podcast that I hastily await new episodes of, Bryn Jackson from Figma and Brian Lovin from Facebook, always pull in a fascinating guest each week and Bryn and Brian themselves are an interesting pair, their unique perspectives and their quarrelling make for very interesting conversations with some the industry’s most influential designers.

Other podcasts on their network, Spec, are also fantastic, they span a variety of topics and the production quality is incredible.

99% Invisible

Hosted by Roman Mars

Roman Mars is a magician. He can help you think about the way things are in such an abstract way, every new perspective feels like it’s broadening your mind and his solid delivery makes every episode pure gold.

Let’s Make Mistakes

Hosted by Mike Monteiro, Liam Campbell and Steph Monette

This podcast is beautifully chaotic, the hosts are unique and the topics they discuss vary a lot, this is refreshing and every episode is always a breath of fresh air. The Mule Team are as unorthodox audibly as they are on Twitter.

Looking at you, Monteiro.

Hustle

Hosted by Anthony Armendariz

Funsize is an awesome agency based in Austin, Texas. Other than incredible client work they also produce this incredibly well-produced podcast.

If you’re looking for topics such as how to develop a good company culture or more of the business aspects of design, rather than just product design, Hustle is a perfect blend of all three.

I hope you enjoyed reading and I hope I’ve introduced you to a source of inspiration you hadn’t encountered before. Podcasts are awesome, and these podcasts in particular are more so. If you’re a designer and know of any other fantastic podcasts, please share links to them in the comments.
