MORE ABOUT OLAP AND OLTP

Suppose you are confused with What’s all about OLAP and OLTP. Well!!! You are at the right place. Let’s get to know more about this. Here we go!!!

OLAP stands for Online analytical processing. It consists of a type of software tools that are used for data analysis for business decisions. OLAP provides an environment to get insights from the database retrieved from multiple database systems at one time.

OLAP, the emphasis is on response time to these complex queries. Each query involves one or more columns of data aggregated from many rows.

OLAP is optimized for conducting complex data analysis for smarter decision-making.

The core of most OLAP databases is the OLAP cube, which allows you to quickly query, report on, and analyze multidimensional data

OLAP cube

Example: Netflix movie recommendation system.

OLTP stands for Online transaction processing. Its processing provides transaction-oriented applications in a 3-tier architecture. OLTP administers the day-to-day transactions of an organization.

An OLTP system captures and maintains transaction data in a database. Each transaction involves individual database records made up of multiple fields or columns.

OLTP, on the other hand, is optimized for processing a massive number of transactions.

Example: ATM center is an OLTP application.

Choosing the right system for your situation depends on your objectives. traditional OLAP tools require data-modeling expertise and often require cooperation across multiple business units. In contrast, OLTP systems are business-critical, with any downtime resulting in disrupted transactions, lost revenue, and damage to your brand reputation. In fact, OLAP systems may be used to analyze data that leads to business process improvements in OLTP systems.
