The login page is the gateway to your Ubuntu system, providing a secure access point for users. In this guide, we will walk you through the process of changing the login screen name on your Ubuntu system.

My login name is Saru and I want to change it to SaruMathy.

Step 1: Open your terminal (use Ctrl + Alt + T)

Step 2: Run the following command.

$ sudo gedit /etc/passwd

Here gedit is the text editor. You can use any text editor in place of gedit. After executing this command, it asks for the password. When the password request comes up, type the password anyway, even though nothing is showing up then hit Enter when finished.

This opens a file named “passwd” in the text editor you entered.

Press Ctrl+F and start searching for your login name. You will find a line like this.

The name which appears before 3 commas i.e., Saru is my Login page name.

Step 3: Edit the existing name.

Step 4: Save the file and Exit.

Now Press WindowsLogo + L or Logout to Verify.

Yeah…Now we have changed our login page name Successfully.
