A simple strategy can help you stop procrastinating and over-complicating things.

In this article, we see a simple rule that will make your life happier and less stressful.

We often tend to procrastinate our tasks till the very last minute and when the deadline draws closer, you will not be able to complete even the simpler tasks as you will be tensed and in a hurry to do things.

If you are one of those people, just follow this rule for a week and see the difference yourself.

The “One minute rule” was coined by author and “happiness expert” Gretchen Rubin in 2006, according to Self. On her website, Rubin described it as an “incredibly easy, incredibly effective” rule that works best when followed consistently.

The working of the rule is very simple: If a task takes less than a minute to complete, then do it immediately. It can be tasks like switching off the lights, filling out a form, replying to a mail, etc

You might come to the conclusion that this rule can be used only for small trivial tasks. But I strongly believe that the so-called “big tasks” start out a small and trivial task.

Consider this example, you might think that washing dishes might take more than a minute. But if you wash your bowl in the morning, your plate after lunch, and your cup after your tea which all take less than a minute to do individually, you might not end up with a pile of dishes that takes more than a minute to clean.

There is an effect called a snowball effect. All of the tasks start out being small (as a size of a snowball), but if we keep pushing and pushing it further it will end up getting bigger and bigger which will finally result in an avalanche

When we practice this one-minute rule, we are finishing our task when it is like a snowball or when it is manageable.

So before you hesitate to do some work, just ask yourself this simple question

Can I finish this task within a minute?

I’m sure that you will be surprised by the results that you will see after practicing this rule. Hope you found this article useful
