With a passion for photography, John Gandolfo takes advantage of the wealth of subject material, from people to architecture, that New York City provides.

One of the most visited locales in Manhattan is Central Park, which spans 843 acres and offers myriad photographic opportunities amid its streams, meadows, woods, and historical structures and buildings. Perhaps the most iconic view is the park’s pond as framed by Gapstow Bridge, the forested hillside Hallett Nature Sanctuary, and the skyline that includes the historic Plaza Hotel.

Another watery location perfect for photos that capture the essence of New York City is the lake, which features the cast-iron Bow Bridge running across its narrower part and is usually dotted by rowboats. To the northeast of the lake stretches the ramble, a hilly forested landscape that includes numerous ponds and rustic structures, and offers a rare urban chance for nature photography featuring migrating and resident birds.

The operations manager at G&G Duct Cleaning, Tulane University graduate John Gandolfo oversees all service personnel and handles project management and job estimates for the New York company. John Gandolfo was an accomplished baseball player while a student at Tulane, and he still enjoys eating right and working out at the gym.

Many people don’t have the desire or time to eat before a workout, but not eating can actually cause the body to lose muscle and may prevent weight loss. The reason this happens is because the body goes into survival mode when a person works out on an empty stomach. When in survival mode, protein is taken from the muscles to fuel movement, resulting in a loss of muscle mass and a slowing of the metabolism. When the metabolism slows, weight loss is much more difficult.

To ensure this doesn’t happen, individuals should eat protein and complex carbohydrates about three hours to 30 minutes before their workout. Some of the best pre-workout foods include crackers, oatmeal, granola bars, Greek yogurt, nuts, and milk. All these foods are digested quickly and easily, thereby ensuring the body gets plenty of oxygen and energy during the workout.

After a workout, eating is essential for replacing the calories that were burned. For this reason, the body needs plenty of protein and complex carbohydrates again. Quinoa, beans, nuts, and fish are all great for post-workout meals. However, it’s important that individuals do not overcompensate when eating after a workout. Most post-workout meals should contain fewer than 500 calories and post-workout snacks shouldn’t exceed 150 calories.

During his time with Tulane, John Gandolfo earned first-team All-Conference honors and NCAA Coaches Association Player of the Week.

There have been 31 Tulane alumni to play in Major League Baseball (MLB) since 1907 and an additional three players will have a chance to add their name to that list after the 2018 MLB First-Year Player Draft. Grant Witherspoon, Will McAffer, and Kody Hoese were selected in the 40-round draft that concluded on June 6. After graduating from Tulane, he accepted his current position as an operations manager with G&G Duct Cleaning in Long Island City. Outside of his professional life, John Gandolfo enjoys researching and investing in stocks.

Common wisdom says that a smart financial strategy involves the investment of money in a combination of savings accounts, bonds, and stocks. However, novice investors may be overwhelmed by the terminology and range of investment options.

Stocks, perhaps the most familiar of investment vehicles, represent partial ownership in a company. When investors purchases stock, they are buying “shares” of the company. As such, owners of stock are invested in a company’s performance — if the company does poorly, the stock is less valuable, and the investor loses money. Choosing stocks can be challenging for individual investors due to the amount of research required to choose winning companies.

A mutual fund, on the other hand, can be thought of as a basket of stocks and other financial instruments. Mutual funds are usually operated by professional investment companies that have already done the research and selected a range of stocks and other investment products such as bonds. Individual investors are then offered the opportunity to buy shares of this basket.

Investing in a mutual fund reduces the risk for individual investors because their money is distributed across many companies and products. However, with reduced risk comes less control over investment strategies.

John Gandolfo utilizes the knowledge he gained at Tulane to live a healthy, active lifestyle outside of his professional responsibilities. He frequently works out at the gym and enjoys maintaining a proper diet.

Eating better is one of the most straightforward ways for a person to improve their overall wellbeing. Unfortunately, many people find the idea of completely overhauling their diet to be intimidating and time consuming. However, there are several simple steps a person can take as they begin improving their eating habits.

Making a weekly meal plan is one of the best ways to start eating healthier. It can be easy to make excuses for poor dietary habits when pressed for time, short on cash, or lacking the ingredients necessary to make a specific dish. Meal plans help bring into focus the many pitfalls of unplanned eating and greatly simplify the process of developing and adhering to a new diet.

Another tip for healthier eating is simply to eat more slowly. The brain can take up to 20 minutes to determine whether the body has received an adequate amount of food, which is time enough to consume a whole extra meal. Studies have shown that quick eaters are 115 percent more likely to become obese than slower eaters.

Lastly, a quick switch from refined grain bread to whole grain bread can make a world of difference. Whole grains have been observed to help prevent type 2 diabetes and minimize an individual’s risk for heart disease and cancer, among numerous other health benefits. Individuals should check the ingredients of the particular whole grain bread before making their purchase, as some brands include a mix of whole and refined grains.

Beyond his work on private, public, and state jobs, John Gandolfo Tulane enjoys following and attending a variety of sporting events.

Over the course of more than a century, New York City has established itself as the most successful sporting town in the United States and one of the most prolific sporting regions in the world. Dating back to 1917, professional sports teams based in New York State have won a combined 58 championships. The New York Yankees, a Major League Baseball (MLB) franchise, has played a crucial role in the city and state’s winning ways over the last century, contributing 27 World Series titles to New York’s championship total. The Yankees stand as the winningest franchise in MLB history and one of the most successful sports franchises in the world.

With 11 pro teams over the last 100 years, the Yankees have hardly been alone in New York’s championship drive. Long the tallest building in Brooklyn, the tower was surpassed by the 515 feet Brooklyner Apartment Building in 2009.

Another landmark Art Deco building is the Brooklyn Public Library, which opened its doors on the Grand Army Plaza in 1941. John Gandolfo joined the company in 2015 while studying at Tulane University and grew the company’s earnings and workforce by 20 percent each year. In his free time, the Tulane University graduate enjoys researching and investing in stocks.

There are two types of stocks: common stock and preferred stock. Most companies issue common stock to people. This type of stock gives shareholders a portion of the company’s profits. Shareholders get returns from that stock based on either capital appreciation, which is an increase in the value of the stock, or from dividends given out by the company.

With common stock, shareholders also get the right to vote on corporate issues, like electing new board members. In most cases, shareholders get one vote per the number of common stock shares owned.

With preferred stocks, shareholders still own part of a company and they still receive dividends. However, the dividends from preferred stock are often larger than those from common stock. And, unlike common stock dividends that are controlled by the company’s board of directors, preferred stock offers shareholders a predetermined dividend.

In addition to that, preferred stocks do not always grant voting rights to shareholders. Depending on the situation, one share of preferred stock may grant one vote, or several votes, or no votes at all.

Holding a bachelor’s degree in health and wellness from Tulane, John Gandolfo enjoys exercising and eating healthy foods.

According to the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, carbohydrates should make up between 45 and 65 percent of a healthy diet. For instance, if you consume 2,000 calories in one day, at least 900 calories (225 grams) should come from carbohydrates. In addition to serving as your body’s main source of energy, carbohydrates can also protect against cardiovascular disease and help control your weight by making you feel full on fewer calories. However, if you are attempting to lose weight, cutting down on carbs could be an effective measure in doing so; instead of eating a lot of bread and pasta, choose protein and fat sources. Additionally, a diet including between just 50 to 150 grams of carbs per day can help lower blood pressure and raise HDL (good) cholesterol.

Conversely, if you’re hoping to bulk up and build muscle, adding more carbs to your diet can help in that regard as long as it’s supplemented by an extensive workout regimen. This means if your recommended intake of carb calories per day is 375, you should increase that figure by 300–500 to support muscle growth.
