It was an arranged phone interview within few days after i have sent my resume to Mr David Tao, CEO of Stylar Network. The interviewer is one of the three musketeer in the company — Mr Dennis , the CTO himself.

It is his personal style to interview person on phone. He called me and we started the interview session.

One of his questions are as below.

“I saw your previous apps on app store already. How do you created those apps?”

I answered: “ The backend created the API and pass the json data. I use the data and display on the app, i code the user interface with xml, if you can supply me with json data, it should be easy”

After that i realized it was a strategy to determine the attitude of the candidates. Most importantly is Humble.

After the phone interview, i was invited to an second interview at our old office which is located at Damansara Jaya at the time. This time is a face to face interviews (with 3 of them) and a technical test.

Dennis — Technical test

It was quite a fun test though. The question is to printout a certain number using a loop. I still remembered he give me a better suggestions on the if-else logic which will be executed faster than my solutions. i’m glad i passed the test because i have a bad experience before with Quintip. (It was not well prepared, although i can write the code but it was not good enough in the process).

Elbert — Design

Next up is the interview by Creative Director and also Co-Founder Elbert. Actually Dennis was invited by Elbert to join him and David as a technical founder because of his experience includes works on ferrari website i heard.

Elbert mainly asked me about the Android things includes 9 path to know my capability on Android development. My first impression of him is a designer with a designer spec. Another thing that he raised up during the interview is do i need any phones for development. I said is ok because mostly i do development using emulator and my own android phone. But i said it is better to have various phone and end up i have 4 phones to test my app during my tenures with them.

David — The Boss

He is the CEO and the founder of the company. He mainly explain about what is the company about to me. He philosophy of the company and he convinced me that company was backed by a rich businessman in Malaysia.

He is also a legend of his previous company which he got 20 months bonus and he gave up chance to become the Asia Pacific director. But the funny things of our interview is about salary which he said it is not an issue but he was shocked when i asked a salary that are beyond his imagination which is like a big leap from my previous salary. But actually during the interview he always emphasize about attitudes which the candidates he looking for are candidates with good attitudes

That’s was the interview process i go through before i joined Seeties. It was so funny because once i was doubt that i am going to join a good company because it seems to me there are only 3 peoples in a small office and i was quite suspicious with what they are doing but i didn’t know that is a startup that i will later on worked for almost 2 years.

And so later i still joined to become the 4th member or employee #1 of the company when they have decided to offer me an offer letter and i accepted it after few days of consideration (mainly i think is because they think am i worth for the salary with the limited experiences only 1 year of working experience)

Left: Elbert and Deniis playing ping pong on a wii.

It was August 2013. My friend told me about a new job opportunity — a startup called jobstylar. It is a recruitment site that is similar to linkedin.

I took a glance on the website http://jobstylar.com which is now unavaible to access but my first impression of the website is well designed. At least the site is user friendly. You can easily navigate as a job seeker or a employer once you are landed on the home page.

The site was look like this (Sorry i only can take a screenshot from the their youtube as the website is not longer online)

Sign up page

Why am i talking about jobstylar? It was the startup before Seeties which i was working on later on the Android version of Seeties.

I thought i will be doing an android app for jobstylar but when i joined the company on August 2013. They have told me that i will be the part of the startup journey of Seeties.

To be continue…

It is great to have free wifi but it feel sucks when some restaurant impose limit on the quota u can use for one device.

It was done at McDonald Tauranga. Mcdonald NZ wifi are always hard to connect. It never prompt you with the login when u connected to the hotspot. (or may if you try a few times). Soon i discover the url was actually https://login1.maccasfreewifi.net.nz/login.php.

Just type this url in the browser and press enter, u will prompt to a terms and condition page where u have to agree to use the free wifi.

As soon you have connected, you can see this status page.

As you can see the download limit is 50MB

Once you finish the 50mb, u will see the page if you try to browse a page

How i manage to hack it so i can continue to use 50 MB, it may seem a bit hassle but it is a way to use it continuously once you’ve finished your limit so that u can have another 50 MB when u reconnect again.

Step 1:

I discover this pattern on the url

It actually use mac address to detect your device usage.

Step 2:

So i did some google to change my mac address on my laptop and found the solution

U can just change the above value eg:120015874635 on the network address and Boom u got another 50mb to use again.

The only problem for this solution is you have to reset your connection everytime which is a lot of hassle. But the good news u get unlimited 50mb to use. ☺

p/s: if you want to have unlimited wifi, just go to burger king. They have free flaming fast wifi
