From freelancers to business owners, everyone needs LinkedIn to grow. LinkedIn has over 875 million people on its platform who share a common interest in professional growth.

With LinkedIn, you get the freedom to build a stunning personal brand online and gather multiple professional opportunities that you would’ve never even thought of.

But to do that, you need to first start creating an audience… 👥

The best way to create an audience that has a genuine connection with you is by networking. To network like a pro, you will need to connect, communicate, congratulate, agree, disagree, react, share, and a lot of other things that would let others know about you.

Let’s look at the 3 ways in which you can network like a pro and land amazing career opportunities.

Optimize your profile

Instead of merely adding your work experiences, you need to focus on other aspects of LinkedIn so that your profile stands out from that of others. So how can you stand out on LinkedIn?

Put a clear headshot of yourself and don’t change it too often as people can recognize you from your profile picture.

Use the “Open to work” feature if you want.

Carefully write your headline. Remember that your headline will tell people about you more than anything. So spill where your expertise lies, your interests, and what you talk about on LinkedIn.

Your banner picture should tell about more than what you do. It can tell how you benefit your clients, your achievements, milestones, etc.

Write your “about” section highlighting all the points regarding, who you are, the people you help, your expertise, services, achievements, how others can benefit from you, and a call to action.

Update your featured section with posts that perform well, resources you provide, achievements you had, etc. This section is all about flaunting your current work so that others can recognize you from the work you’ve done.

Add your endorsements, skills, and past work experience.

By optimizing your LinkedIn using these points you can create a stunning opening for your LinkedIn venture.

Engage with people in your niche

Deciding who should be in your network is a very crucial decision to make, especially when you’re starting off. For a beginner, one needs to be very careful with who you interact.

To keep it simple, the people you interact with and the people you wish to have in your audience should overlap with each other. You need to make sure that they talk about the same topics as you do and share content in the same niche as you.

So the first step should be to connect with people you already know. This can be industry experts or your friends from college.

The next best step would be to send connection requests to strangers who are in your niche. These strangers can be public figures, people that pop up in your feed, or decision-makers of a brand.

The decision-makers of a brand can include recruiters, founders, CEOs, CMOs, CXOs, the head of content, marketing directors, and others you can connect with.

After you’ve decided by filtering out who you need to connect with, start by sending them personalized connection requests. Don’t be generic here.

Most of the time, only those connection requests with meaningful and personalized messages get accepted. Others just stay there in waiting or worse, deleted.

Example: Instead of saying, “Hey Steve, I hope to connect with you.”

Say, “Hey Steve. I was going through your website and I was intrigued by the content engagement metrics tool. As a content writer, I think I would definitely recommend my clients invest in this. I hope to talk more about it once we connect.”

Engagement doesn’t end here. After your connection request gets accepted you need to form a meaningful connection with them. I keep on saying meaningful because people can smell sales messages.

So try to make conversations with them by asking them questions about their success story, or help them out with something you think they’re doing wrong.

The whole idea behind forming a meaningful connection is to let them know that you’re talking to them because you are interested in them and not because you want something from them.

Start engaging with the content they post online and leave thoughtful comments. Don’t just like the posts. Leave an impression on them.

Post consistently for at least 3 months to see results

Don’t just post content out there. Create something that makes people want to engage with it. Engagement is the only way your profile will recognition so make good use of that.

First, make a list of all the things you can post. Make it a combination of content that is specific to your industry and generic content that builds your audience.

Let’s say you’re a LinkedIn growth specialist, you can post about the following:

The biggest mistakes beginners make on LinkedIn

How I managed to gain 3000 followers on LinkedIn in just 1 month

It’s women’s day today, here are some top Female content creators you should follow on LinkedIn

3 things that life made me learn the hard way

Here’s how I managed to grow my client’s LinkedIn account with organic marketing

My favorite quote for when I’m feeling demotivated

Valuable and relatable content will bring you more recognition than any other form of content. So try and experiment with what works best for your account. Learn from your mistakes and choose to do what gives you maximum engagement and results.

Key Takeaways

LinkedIn is just another platform where you can grow yourself both professionally and personally. So make use of it because it can open many doors of opportunities that you could never even imagine.

Optimize your profile, engage and connect with people meaningfully, and post valuable content. These three things will take you a long way in your LinkedIn journey.

Instagram no longer serves as a square photo app. They have pivoted their strategy from photos to reels. Now you can share ideas, creativity, and knowledge easily, and quickly through Instagram’s reels.

Here’s a little backstory…

Short-form content is “King” and initially gained attention through Vine. But after Vine’s shut down, Tiktok’s booming videos, and Youtube’s lengthy content, it was Instagram’s turn to step up on its game with Reels.

Users got entertainment, information, and other videos that fit into their busy schedules when the content was short. So Instagram wanted to try it too.

What are Instagram reels?

Reels are short-form video content of up to 90 seconds with built-in tools like voiceover, audio sounds, stickers, GIFs, filters, captions, text, effects, and more.

They are a series of videos that pop up one after another based on the user’s personal interest. They stay on your profile forever under a section with the reels logo.

Anyone can become an influencer through Reels. You can be funny, entertaining, informational, educational, or share videos promoting your business.

You don’t need a crew or heavy lightings that cost a fortune for small creators. All you need is your phone and some decent lighting. For most people, sunshine works fine.

From brands like Chanel and Dior to Small scale businesses like peachlore and TheHookBrewBay, everyone can benefit from reels. Data shows that around 86% of businesses all over the world use reels as a tool to market their products.

This makes reels, the #1 choice for marketers to elevate their ROI (Return on investment).

Why did Instagram launch reels?

Instagram had to step up its game due to a lot of competition. To build a creative platform for its users, Instagram introduced Reels.

Adam Mosseiri, in a video on Twitter, confirmed that Instagram is going to change its focus from photo sharing to 4 other factors:

Creators on Instagram

Video sharing platforms

Shopping via Instagram

Messaging and connecting

Their focus was also to provide their users with personalized recommendations based on past activities and interests. Reels use the same procedure to generate automatic video content right on the user’s feed.

Why should you use reels?

Since people spend more time on video content, Instagram gives priority to Reels more than any other form of content. Reels have a high potential to make your content go viral.

Reels are not just for Content Creators! It’s for anyone who wants to make videos for fun, business, travel, cooking, singing, dancing, education, videographers, freelancers, brand creatives, and much more.

It’s really simple to create a reel. All the tools you need for editing are provided on Instagram which makes the process easy for everyone. You don’t need to be a pro at editing videos. All you need is a phone and internet access.

You get tools like text, brushes, audio, GIFs, stickers, voiceover, etc. In case you need to hide your face behind the camera, you can always choose to add voiceover or music.

Moreover, around 67% of the GenZ plan to devote more time to Reels rather than Tiktok. Reels definitely help you grow and create a huge audience with ease.

Reels v/s stories

Stories stay on a person’s profile for 24 hours only. Reels stay on feed forever.

There’s a separate section for reels on your profile so it’s easier for your followers to rewatch them. Stories can be seen on the profile icon.

Reels can be shared on stories but it only stays there for 24 hours unless you save them on highlights to rewatch them.

The maximum length of stories is up to 15 seconds but for reels, it is for 90 seconds.

How to create your first reel?

You first need to plan your reel.

Select what sounds you are going to use. What topics you are going to cover? Is your reel entertainment focussed or for educational purposes? Select the “audio icon” from the top menu and then the voiceover option. After this, record the voice-over and click on “done” once you’re satisfied with it. Adjust the voice-over to audio volume ratio to your choice.

To add stickers, click on the smiley icon on top of the menu and then add stickers or GIFs from the library.

How to optimize Hashtags for Reels?

Hashtags allow you to be discovered by more people of similar interests.

Reels always occupy the most space when used with hashtags, so your video is more likely to be recognized by people.

If you use hashtags that are related to the type of content you post, recognition becomes easier.

Some points you need to remember when using hashtags with reels:

Topic or niche

Viral trends you want to follow

Type of audience

Products/services you want to sell

Relevant businesses or products in the same niche as yours

Target age, gender, and nationality of your audience

Needs and requirements of your target audience

How to select a cover picture for your reel?

After shooting and editing the video, click on “next.” A new page with “share” written on top will appear. Once you’re done selecting the cover picture, click on done and share it with your audience.

How to edit, share and download your Instagram reels?

To edit, share or download your reel, click on the three dots in the lower-right corner of your reel

Then choose the option you want:

Click on EDIT to edit your reel.

Click on SHARE TO for sharing it with other people.

Click on SAVE TO CAMERA ROLL to save the video in your gallery.

Click on SAVE to save the video in the “saved” section of your profile.

What dimension should your reels have?

Reels come with a default screen ratio of 9:16. But Instagram lets you choose whichever dimension you want.

When you add a video, say 4:3 ratio, Instagram will put the video in a black background, making the overall ratio 9:16.

No matter what ratio you choose, the final reel will always be in the ratio of 9:16.

However, it is advisable to use a video/photo of a 9:16 ratio so that it looks good on the screen.

What is the optimal length for reels?

You have a time limit of 90 seconds for reels.

There is no optimal length, so it’s up to you to choose a length.

But there are some important points you need to remember. The purpose of your reels must be considered before you decide on the length of your reels.

Generally, reels that educate people about social issues are longer than quick-food tutorials. Reels that promote a song tend to be longer than comedy skits.

So the length must be chosen with these factors in mind.

How to get ideas for reels that make you go viral?

Marketers and Content specialists use personalized marketing techniques to create deep-rooted and significant relationships with customers and prospects.

Personalized marketing technique involves:

Look what other creators in the same niche are doing. Analyze others to get inspired for new ideas.

Use the Instagram Analytics tool to view insights. It is a great tool to create content that your audience prefers to watch.

Focusing on three pillars of content creation, i.e., education, inspiration, and relatability makes a profitable difference in engagement.

Engage with your audience regularly through polls, comments, questions, etc. Use this data to know how you can create better content.

How to discover the best-trending music, sounds, and filters on Instagram?

There are 3 ways to discover trending sounds and filters on Instagram so that everything you post goes viral.

The Browse Method:

Open the Instagram camera for stories

Select the photo or video to edit

Click on the “Music” icon to select audio

The trending songs based on your liking will appear in the browse section. You can either select from the ones available or browse by typing the names of songs.

Do the same for filters and you will have a list of the trending ones.

The Explore Page Method:

Open the explore page and start watching the reels that show up. These reels have been trending for some time and are similar to your interests.

Look for reels with audio or filters that interest you. Save them for later.

One way to check the popularity of an audio or filter is by checking how many people have used it to create reels. Do this and start making your own viral reels.

The Hashtag Method:

Search for a keyword that is specific to your niche and look at the list of other similar hashtags that appear in a drop-down menu.

Open these hashtag pages one by one and look for the audio sounds or filters that people have used the most.

Save these audio sounds and filters to use later.

Do you need high-quality videos for reels?

Good quality content is very essential for building a presence online. For this, the resolution of your reels must be of decent quality. Bad-quality videos are often responsible for stagnant followers and decreasing views because the competition is immense.

Instagram compresses the files you upload so the video quality goes down a lot. This is why, whenever you post a reel, its quality gets degraded.

If you shoot a decent-quality video, the compression won’t be much noticeable. But if the quality of the reel is already poor, then further compression will only make it worse.

So it is always advisable to use decent quality photos or videos shot on a good camera.

You don’t need to buy a professional camera or any other professional equipment to shoot reels. Any phone camera that shoots videos with a clear resolution and good sound quality will work.

Should I remove third-party watermarks from my reels?

In an interview with TheVerge, The spokesperson for Instagram (Devi Narsimhan) confirmed that Instagram filters out content based on its quality.

If the content is downloaded from a third-party app or is blurry, then the algorithm will not push it forward.

Instagram’s algorithm will not promote any reel with a watermark (eg, TikTok) as much as other videos without a watermark.

So to be on top of Instagram, you need to remove third-party watermarks. An easy way to do this is by using Apps from the PlayStore or the AppleStore.

You can get these apps for free on your android, iPhone, or laptop. Some other ways to do this on your own are by cropping out or blurring the watermarked section of your video.

How to keep a track of the insights on reels?

To keep a track of the insights of your reels, you first need to switch to a CREATOR or BUSINESS profile. Instagram lets you use the insights tool to know which videos perform better.

Click here if you want to know how to switch your profile to creator or business mode.

Once you’ve switched to a business or creator profile, you will now get access to the various in-built insight tools.

There are two ways to see insights. The first one is to see the activity on your profile as a whole.

The second way is to check the insights of individual posts. This can be done by clicking on the three dots in the lower corner of your reel, then selecting “view insights.”

Keep a close watch on what posting time generates the best results for your reels.

Check how many Profile visits you get after posting a particular reel.

Track user activity on your individual posts by keeping a check on shares, saves, likes and comments.

Keep a track of the accounts your reel has reached after posting it online.

The number of times your reels are played is also a good determinant of how well your post is doing.

How does the algorithm of Reels work?

Instagram has confirmed that the algorithm works on four main principles to rank its content. They are:

Insights of the post

Who posted it

The activity of the person who posted it

Their history of interaction with other people online

Instagram also uses collaborative filtering, which includes factors that decide what pops up in your explore feed. These factors are time spent, likes, comments, saves, and profile visits.

They use the activity of the user to recommend your reel.

Get out of your love obsession that feels like bondage

Love addiction also called pathological love or love obsession is the sequence of behavior involving immense interest and obsessive longing for someone (or more) you love. When these behavioral patterns go out of hand to an extent that it gets difficult to control, the consequences can be harmful to your mental health.

What does love addiction look like?

Love obsession can display itself as an amalgamation of various symptoms like feeling incomplete when your partner is not around, obsessive and repetitive thoughts about the relationship or your partner, feelings of longing for love, too much confusion, being desperate, constantly trying to seek attention, or having hopes that are too high to meet the normal standards of a real relationship.

It also involves the feeling of being trapped in the circle of loving and waiting to lead to confusion. Love, here, becomes similar to a drug response like smoking and drinking because you know it is harmful to you, yet you don’t let it go. Along with suffering and addictive habits, guilt, self-hating, shame, loneliness, also kick in.

Our brain reacts to love and touch through some chemical activities. The oxytocin levels increase while the blood pressure decreases when we are in affectionate physical contact with someone.

Drug addiction also produces the same pattern of chemical activity in the brain as it is during romantic bonding and physical contact.

When you are physically or emotionally withdrawn from someone you love, you experience a similar drug reaction in your brain and this produces feelings of compulsion which gradually develops into chronic levels. In this situation, our loved one is like the drug that makes us involve ourselves in chronic repeated actions, also called compulsions, even without our choice.

Is an obsessive relationship healthy?

Obsessive thoughts can also lead to Obsessive relationship Anxiety, which is not a sign of healthy relationships. A healthy relationship would rather be characterized by spending some quality time with your partner while being able to enjoy some time alone, without the obsessive thoughts, as well.

How does a healthy relationship look like?

While addictive romantic relationships are evidently toxic and still very hard to let go of, healthy relationships on the other hand do not involve much drama or a feeling of never-ending longing for someone. Without much turmoil or confusion, a healthy relationship involves mutual understanding and you know very well that the person you love is simply available for you if the need arises.

The biological explanation for Love Addiction

According to a review case study done in 2018, it was found that the Dopamine Reward System in the brain is activated when one experiences romantic love. This system in the brain acts as a triggering point for impatiently wanting love. As we grow old and become more stable, these feelings settle down, giving our love lives more stability. But when we are experiencing young love, especially unrequited love, the impatient longing for love and attention is at its peak.

The connection between your childhood and love addiction

Parents are the first teachers in our lives. They are the ones that demonstrate adult life to us when we are kids. We educate ourselves about love in our childhood as well.

This is done when our brain leaves a rough sketch of how love would look once we grow up. There are two types of relationships that children use to separate good relationships from bad. The first one is comforting and affectionate relationships. The second one is reluctant and emotionally unavailable relationships.

We begin to learn about love right from our childhood through our parents. When we are kids, we require our parents’ attention, love, and warmth. But when our parents are neglectful and indifferent towards us, this is when we form this picture in our head. Due to this pre-formed picture, we expect the same from our romantic partners.

Our parents’ neglect and avoidance are carried into adulthood making it confusing for us since we end up being scared and lonely in adulthood. We think that our partner would also similarly treat us, or worse, ignore and abandon us.

In adulthood, when we are in a relationship with someone, we unconsciously tend to recall these feelings of loneliness and fear of abandonment. These natural yet irrational fears make us think that our partner would also treat us the same way our parents did.

Despite the emotional hurt in childhood, people still lead healthy and supportive relationships in adulthood. But the problem sometimes arises when our partner is also an unhealthy match for us. An unhealthy match would lead to dysfunctional relationships that surprisingly last for a long time even if the flaws in the relationship are evident.

Triggering factors for Love Addiction

· When your partner disappears without informing you

· When your partner doesn’t commit and it makes you feel uneasy

· When there has been an absence of a role model who could have demonstrated how a healthy relationship looks like

· Looking for a perfect romantic relationship

· When you keep questioning your love for your partner even if it’s clear that you want to get rid of this vicious emotional cycle

· Unresolved past trauma that is interfering in your present relationships by causing feelings of loneliness, abandonment, etc

· When you partner talks to other people or texts them more than he spends time with you

· When your self-esteem levels are very low

How to be sure if it is Love Addiction or a natural response to your partner’s neglect?

Suffering is one of those factors that determine the intensity of a stressor. When we love someone, if suffering stays the same or does not decrease by making the pain worse, then there is some problem in the relationship or the way we love.

If you can’t break away from your worries and confusion then it is evident that you’re caught in the cycle of love addiction. There must be a positive aspect to your relationship that helps the relationship to remain healthy. But if this positive aspect is absent and if there is some constant worry regarding the relationship, then it is probably Love Addiction.

Increasing self-awareness and gaining knowledge about why we behave the way we do is good but isn’t of much help in the practical aspect. Knowledge alone is not able to tame the unconscious mind for purposes like healing, restructuring, etc.

It’s cathartic to list out the bad memories or get rid of any trace of the person who has caused you suffering. It also feels relieving to avoid certain thoughts or to divert your mind. But all these techniques will never make a difference in your mindset if you are not healing and restructuring yourself from an internal basis. Therefore, here are some healthy and effective ways through which you can work on yourself.

How to overcome Love Addiction

Identify your Drug

List out all of the feelings and trigger points that make you feel confused, worried, anxious, or sad concerning your relationship. Keeping things clear in your headspace will let you be sure about what triggers you and what makes you feel uneasy.

Let’s refer to these trigger points as drugs. Your drug could be feeling lonely when your partner is not around, feeling jealous when your partner talks to other people, feeling as if your partner is not giving you enough attention even when he/she is around, or trying too much to make it work out because you constantly feel everything is going to fall off.

Write it all down

As you are writing down the entire trigger points you have listed out, you will start to figure out the reason for having these, often irrational, feelings. You can also write your obsessive thoughts and why you feel you have them.

You might want extra attention from your partner so you feel lonely tend to call him/her up. The extra attention that you think you need could be because of a traumatic past relationship where your partner had left you.

You might feel unattended or try too much to work it out because you want to have a sense of belonging or someone to hear you out due to some unresolved issues from your childhood, especially from your relationship with your parents.

Reflect on what you have written

Think about your childhood or any past relationship that might’ve hurt you. Connect the dots and try to figure out the real reason for your addictive thoughts.

Imagine how confident and content you would be if you took responsibility for your action, emotions, joys, failures, sadness, and success. Think about how joyful it would be if the first person to be happy for your success is you.

Imagine how amazing it would be if you love yourself before anyone else. Start making yourself a priority that no one can come in between to cause a hindrance.

Plan it out

Refocus your primary attention on yourself. Take it slow and steady because at first, it would seem difficult to have this huge change all of a sudden. But with some practice and letting your deep emotions go, you will learn to accept and treat yourself better than anyone else.

Try to enjoy your life without necessarily having someone to tag along with. This way, you will learn to love others more healthily since you have made yourself a priority and focused on your healing first.

When you represent yourself in a relationship, it requires some fitness and stability. This can happen only when you are mentally stable and unconditionally love yourself first.

Practice loving yourself

Loving yourself comes in different forms. Begin by setting realistic standards, followed by setting more achievable goals. If you keep up with unrealistic goals, it would only lead you to self-criticism, self-loathing, and self-blame in case you fail to achieve them.

Say no to “negative self-talk” by replacing your inner speech with words of confidence and motivation. For example, rather than saying, “if I don’t do this, I will never have a happy romantic relationship,” say things like, “I am just exploring what I want from a relationship and there is nothing wrong with trying to find out what I’m looking for.”

You can also think of considering therapy or expert relationship counseling/coaching for better guidance. If love addiction is really hard for you to determine, you can seek expert advice on how you should be approaching to heal your mental turmoil. Remember that you don’t have to suffer, physically or emotionally, at all. You can always seek help from experts in the field of mental health or relationship guidance.

In early times, the word “baby” was used to point out someone who is immature and doesn’t act like his/her age. Although the word tends to signify childish behavior and cute little infants, it is still used by many people as a cute pet name for their romantic partners.

While many find it cute and sexy to call their boyfriends or girlfriends “baby,” there are some people who despise the word itself. In a study conducted in the UK, it was found that a huge amount of women found the word “baby” to be disgusting. It was the most hated word for those women even surpassing nick-names like puppy and pudding.

The reason for this hate is perhaps rooted in the role of women in our society. The word ‘baby’ creates a sense of owner-like authoritative feeling in the one who says it. In the adult world, it’s said to be a term that sexualizes women by making them seem submissive and under the care of a man.

Some men often see women as something to be taken care of. They think women are infant-like beings that need constant protection. But this thinking has changed since it’s totally untrue. Women have now begun calling out on men who have these kinds of views about other women.

Intimate times are serious for other animals but we, as humans, want to have fun with them. Therefore, we have different variations of how we can have fun while being intimate. Using nicknames and other cute words, especially baby, allows us to enjoy our intimate moments.

Here are some reasons why we think couples call each other baby.

It makes you want to protect your loved one

Babies cannot survive in this world if their cuteness is taken away from them. Their cute appearance and small body structure make it hard for others to overlook them, let alone do something bad to them.

A similar feeling is associated with couples calling each other by nicknames, most often by the word “baby.” Couples make their love clear for each other by using nicknames, especially “baby.”

The word highlights the vulnerability and a desire to be loved and taken care of. It points at the necessity of having love in order to survive.

Babies are also seen as helpless beings that require constant support and gentle care. By using the word baby you are letting your partner know that you care about them just like your own child. You are hinting at the protective meaning of the word.

It has a gentle feeling attached to it

Baby as a word has sweet, gentle, affectionate, and cuddling emotions attached to it. Whenever you see a baby you probably would want to hold it or talk to it in a high-pitched-baby-talk voice. The same feelings arise when you talk to someone you love using the word baby.

You might want to see your partner as someone who needs attention and care, just like a baby.

Pop-Culture is full of it

Most pop songs have the word “baby” in them. From Justin Bieber’s hit song baby to Ariana Grande’s song Baby I, the word is just too evident in pop culture. Even Selena Gomez’s I love you like a love song baby was a hit.

It’s healthy for the relationship to flourish

An expert in the field of intimacy, Dr. Ian Kerner in his book “Good in bed” agrees that using pet names in a romantic relationship is healthy if both the partners agree to it.

Baby creates a sense of tenderness in couples, induces mutual feelings, and allows both partners to put their guard down. This, in turn, increases the chances of a healthy and flourishing relationship.

Couples even engage in idiosyncratic means of communication which is a part of private speech that creates a little world for them to live in. The feeling of just the two of us is present.

According to a study by Judy Pearson and Carol Bruess, it has been found that marital satisfaction is highly correlated to using nicknames like baby, honey, love, darling, sweetie, etc.

It increases intimacy

Using pet names increases intimacy in the relationship of a couple. There is a very strong sense of affection and care that is induced in a person that triggers feelings of romance.

Often when couples, who usually call themselves by nicknames, are having a fight, they tend to drop down their speech to a harsher one. They start to call each other by their real name indicating the loss of romance. So it can also be said that sometimes no pet name is equal to no intimacy.

The word baby radiates young energy and sounds good to say

The word baby itself is cute and easygoing. Some people think it radiates young energy whenever they say it since it reminds them of young infants and a carefree attitude.

The word sounds smooth on the tongue because it has a roll-like feeling to it. Just try saying baby in a romantic way and you’ll know it.

Often, couples engage in pillow-talk which is one occasion where the word baby is overused. With the high-pitched baby-talk and romance in the eyes, it almost seems like couples are talking to each other as if they’re real babies.

Emotions and Intimacy- Our final thoughts

As grown-up adults, we often tend to hide our emotions from the world and keep our feelings for others hidden most of the time. A lot of us actually struggle to express our heartfelt emotions for a person, even if it’s appreciating them for being in our lives. In this quest of trying to be an adult, we somehow neglect the value of being open to people and letting them know how much we care about them.

But sometimes, being in a romantic relationship with someone allows us to put our defenses down and gradually get into that childish zone that may have seemed out of our comfort zone if it were for someone else. Hence, we use the term baby along with other pet names and lovey-dovey actions to get that inner-child out of us and live our relationship to our fullest.
