Angelo Hays

An invention from 1843 by Christian Henry Eisenbrandt.

One of the most famous cases of a premature burial is that of Angelo Hays from France. In 1937, Hays was riding his motorcycle when he got into a terrible accident that left him with severe head injuries. He was pronounced dead a few days later and promptly buried. However, as his father had taken out a sizable life insurance policy on him, a claims adjuster was sent to investigate the cause of death. Two days after the burial, Hay’s body was exhumed and he was discovered to still be alive. He eventually made a full recovery and gained some popularity in France after inventing his own electric coffin.

2. Shakereh Khaleeli

Coming from a wealthy Indian family, it caused an uproar when Shakereh went missing in 1991. Three years later, her remains were found in her own home. Apparently, her second husband had drugged her and buried her between two mattresses.

3. Virginia MacDonald

In 1851, Virginia was living with her dad in New York. When she became ill, died, and was buried in Brooklyn. Following the burial, her mother told people that she didn’t think her daughter was dead. Apparently, she was convincing enough that they dug up Virginia’s body. The investigators found that she had in fact been buried alive, and there were scratch marks evident on the inside of her coffin.

4. Octavia Hatcher

After her baby died in 1891, Octavia came down with a strange disease and passed away as well. Other residents in the small Kentucky town started coming down with the disease too, but then they woke up from their “comas” after a while. Octavia’s husband panicked and had her dug up. It was too late though. She was dead, but it was obvious that she had woken up underground (scratch marks on her coffin). Her husband was devastated and erected a full-scale statue of her. It still stands today.

5. Matthew Wall

In the late 6th century, while Matthew’s body was being taken to his grave near Braughing, England, one of the pallbearers tripped and the coffin fell. To everyone’s surprise, Matthew woke up. He went on to celebrate his “resurrection” every year thereafter.

Dutch Girls of Panana

Two young women pose for a selfie in front of the wild nature of Panama. The two girls are Kris Kremers and Lisanne Froon, Dutch travelers who were hiking the El Pianista trail. They set off for their hike on April 1 at 11 am. Unfortunately, on the 2nd, they did not turn up for an appointment, and the parents of the girls stopped receiving the daily texts they had been getting in the past. On April 6, the parents arrived in Panana along with a full police search. The forest would be combed for ten days. Nothing was found. Ten weeks later, a woman handed in a blue backpack. The backpack belonged to Froon, and inside were personal belongings, including a camera and their phones. The phones had evidence of emergency numbers having been dialed only hours after the girls started their hike, but due to lack of reception, the calls did not connect. Froons’s phone died on April 4, and Kremers phone would be turned on intermintently between the 5th and the 11th, but the incorrect pin was entered, or no pin was entered each time. On the camera, ninety flash photos were taken between one and four am in complete darkness deep within the jungle. One disturbing image shows the back of Kremers’s head with blood on her hair. Two months after the backpack was discovered, a pelvis and a foot inside a boot were discovered, along with other remains. These were later DNA tested and confirmed to belong to Kris Kremers and Lisanne Froon. What happened to them remains a mystery today.

2. He had told her he was interested in hiking the Haiku Stairs, otherwise known as the “Stairway to Heaven.” This hike was closed to the public, and anyone caught hiking it was trespassing. His grandmother warned him against it, saying he would be locked up if he did. On February 27, 2015, he caught a bus and ventured forth to the stairway to heaven hike. Daylenn sent texts to his grandmother with photos of the hike. He was never seen again. After his disappearance, the photos were studied; one showed a man in the far background. He seems to be following behind Daylenn. The family asked for public assistance and for anyone who recognized the man to come forth. Its pages are filled with elaborate illustrations of unknown plants, astronomical diagrams, and text written in an unknown script. Despite the efforts of countless researchers, linguists, and cryptographers over the centuries, the manuscript remains undeciphered. The text’s unique characteristics, including its unidentifiable language and perplexing illustrations, have led to numerous theories about its origin and purpose, ranging from a lost natural language to an elaborate hoax. The Voynich Manuscript continues to intrigue scholars and enthusiasts alike, standing as one of history’s most enduring unsolved mysteries.

3. In 1842 a bunch of skeletons were seen floating around the fringes of the lake. The lake is said to be a result of an extraterrestrial impact crater that later filled with rainwater and became a lake. The mystery of the lake is the fact that the water here is pink. It is because of the biomass of Haloarchaea microbes, which turns the surface of the water red or pink.

5. Some of his most famous works include the "Mona Lisa" and "The Last Supper." He is often considered one of the greatest artists of all time. Additionally, his notebooks contain numerous sketches and observations that demonstrate his wide-ranging interests and intellect.

The enigmatic allure of Leonardo da Vinci's masterpiece, the Mona Lisa, transcends time and space, captivating generations of viewers with its enigmatic smile and mysterious aura. At the heart of this fascination lies the ambiguity of the sitter's identity, believed by many to be Lisa Gherardini, the wife of Florentine merchant Francesco del Giocondo. However, this attribution remains conjectural, fueling speculation and debate among art historians and enthusiasts. The painting's composition adds another layer of intrigue, with da Vinci employing his pioneering sfumato technique to create a soft, ethereal atmosphere that blurs the boundaries between reality and illusion. The Mona Lisa's enigmatic smile, often described as both enigmatic and inviting, has sparked countless interpretations, ranging from symbolic depictions of feminine mystique to theories suggesting hidden meanings related to mathematics, anatomy, or even veiled self-portraiture by da Vinci himself. Moreover, the painting's history is shrouded in mystery, with tales of theft, vandalism, and intrigue adding to its mystique. Despite extensive research and analysis, the Mona Lisa continues to defy definitive explanation, inviting viewers to embark on a perpetual quest to unravel its secrets and discover the timeless truths concealed within its enigmatic gaze.

Francisco Goya (1746-1828) was a renowned Spanish painter and printmaker, considered one of the most important artists of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. His work spanned various genres, including portraiture, history painting, and printmaking.

Francisco Goya created a series of paintings known as the "Black Paintings" during his later years, likely between 1819 and 1823, when he was living in isolation on his estate outside Madrid. These paintings are characterized by their dark, haunting themes and somber tones. One famous work from this series is "Saturn Devouring His Son," depicting the mythological titan consuming one of his offspring. The Black Paintings are considered a reflection of Goya’s disillusionment and despair with the world around him. Francisco Goya created a total of fourteen "Black Paintings" during his later years. These paintings were executed directly onto the walls of his house, Quinta del Sordo, outside Madrid. However, only thirteen of these paintings survive today, as "The Dog" was removed from the wall and transferred to canvas by a subsequent owner. Series of 14 paintings are as under:

(Saturno devorando a su hijo), Saturn Devouring His Son, 1819–1823

2. (El perro), The Dog, 1819–1823

3.
