9 Tips to Make your Car Tire Last Longer

1- Do not neglect tire calibration

One of the main ways to make your car tire last longer is by making it a habit to always check tire pressure and do tire calibration when refueling or doing it once a week. Lack of proper pressure makes the car consume more gasoline and wears out the tire faster.

It is estimated that a tire that is about 10% below the indicated calibration has a 5% shorter service life. Service life drops to 16% if calibration is 20% lower than it should. The flatter the tire, the faster it will wear out and the faster it will need to be replaced.

2- Respect the maximum load capacity of the vehicle,

Respecting the vehicle’s maximum load capacity is not only a way to make the tire last longer, but it also protects many other parts from wear or even breakage.

The vehicle’s maximum weight information is also in the manual or even embossed on the tire. Not to mention that not exceeding the load limit, you also avoid fines.

3- Align the wheels
Have you ever felt the car pull to one side, especially when releasing the steering wheel? This is the main symptom of lack of alignment. In addition to the increase in fuel consumption, this problem greatly damages the suspension and wears out the tires.

You can learn a lot more about alignment, also known as geometry, in our article on the subject .

4- Perform the caster according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.

The caster is the action of changing the front tires for the rear ones. This is necessary because in most cases the front tires wear up to 3 times faster than the rear tires.

5- Balancing needs to be up to date
Like alignment, balancing is critical to making the car’s tire last longer. This is a recurring problem that is fixed with lead parts placed on the wheel to balance weight distribution.

Balancing will ensure a longer service life for the tire and other car components, as well as making driving safer and smoother.

6- Do not use tires of different designs on the same axle.
Currently tires have different designs that bring different benefits to the steering. However, by placing different tires on the same axle, the benefits are offset. Not only that, but the tires may wear unevenly.

By having different adhesions, one side will be more damaged than the other and eventually all tires will be compromised.

7- Maintain original tire and wheel dimensions
Some people may find beautiful larger or smaller wheels in a vehicle. But remember that all factory dimensions are designed to make the parts work perfectly.

8- Also take care of safety valves
The tire valve, also called the tire nozzle, is important to ensure extended tire life. Even the lack of the nozzle cap is enough to cause problems for the tires.

9- Drive without exaggeration
Acceleration and sudden braking are some of the attitudes that most damage the life of a tire. Speeding is also linked to the increased wear of many parts.
