But reaching your dream job can be challenging and overwhelming without realizing your <strong>strengths, weaknesses and true passion</strong>. It is always hard work and dedication which will take you closer to your career goals.</p><figure><img alt="" src="https://cdn-images-1.medium.com/max/860/1*3aZhYQQJoevQRvRfOB2qag.png" /></figure><p>However, people often get lost and confused for a long time when deciding what career path they should pursue for their future. It is the reason why I believe that it is crucial for everyone to go through a career development process in order to give you ownership over all aspects of your career.</p><p><strong>Career Changing</strong></p><p>Many people are unhappy with their careers and change their professions repeatedly due to various reasons.</p><p>· personal low capabilities with an organization</p><p>· ineffective leadership</p><p>· poor compensation and benefits</p><p>· Deterioration of work/life balance</p><p>According to studies, one out of three employed people spends about an hour per day searching for another job.</p><p><strong>Career Development</strong></p><p>Different variables have been established as important for career development.</p><p>· Temperament</p><p>· Preferences</p><p>· Self-efficacy</p><p>· Social class</p><p>· Essential role in life.</p><p>These areas should be discussed in order to evaluate the significance of a person’s career choice by career counsellors.</p><p><strong>How to Create a Career Development Plan?</strong></p><p>Having a personalized career development action plan for yourself will recognize your potential, unique interest and belief for a particular career. It will enhance your skills and knowledge that can create a roadmap to your dream job.</p><p><strong>Step One: Self-Assessment</strong></p><p>As a first step, you have to write about your background information to know your strengths and weaknesses which will make the career decision easy for you.</p><p>The self-assessment should include;</p><p>1. <strong>Values </strong>— achievements that are important when you’re planning to work for the first time.</p><p>2. <strong>Interests</strong> — Work or tasks which you enjoy working and doing.</p><p>3. <strong>Personality</strong> — Figuring which type of person you are will help you to find a suitable career path.</p><p>4. <strong>Skills </strong>— The skills that you are good at should always be recognized to reduce obstacles during your career.</p><p><strong>Step Two: Set Development Goals</strong></p><p>Setting your development goals will offer your long time vision and short-term motivation. It will help you to make big decisions and realize your dream job.</p><p>Your goals should be specific, measurable, action-oriented and realistic.</p><p><strong>Step Three: Creating Action Steps</strong></p><p>Writing your own action steps will give you directions to follow to achieve your goals and track your progress.</p><p>The action step consists of three parts;</p><p><strong>ACTION:</strong> a verb that describes what action you will be taken</p><p><strong>CONTEXT:</strong> when and where will it take place?</p><p><strong>RESULTS:</strong> what will be the result of this action?</p><p><strong>Step Four: List Your Obstacles and Solutions</strong></p><p>This step will help you to identify the problems and obstacles that stand as a barrier to your career and possible ways to overcome them.</p><p>The common problems and obstacles you may find;</p><ul><li>Limited time</li><li>Lack of financial support</li><li>Lack of feedback, encouragement and motivation</li><li>The manager is unsupportive of development</li></ul><p><strong>Step Five: Identify Your Resources</strong></p><p>Resources could be anything that will support your development.</p><p>· Encouragement and motivation from your mentor</p><p>· Getting feedback and advice from skilled people in your career field</p><p>· Getting approval on training and development programs</p><p><strong>Step Six: Evaluate Your Progress</strong></p><p>The progress of your career development can be evaluated when you have successfully achieved your goals.</p><p>I believe that career development is essential for the growth of our personal life as much as our working life.
