WalaHaja #12: The Tradition of Enlightenment, a global vision

The post is originally written and published as an X Article during Q4 2024.

Stumbling upon an old purposely tagged Audio-book segment

After getting my cousin to reactivate my Google One subscription — since Egypt officially blocks all prepaid cards from making online transactions except in local platforms, I had to use his banker’s card for that purpose — I stumbled upon this 80 seconds silent screen-capture video — I seemed as if I have saved it during one of my barefoot trips through Dahab’s Magic Lake, where I usually open up to new ideas and inspiration, or during one of the evening mountain trips where I usually conclude my research and learning for the day.

Abdo Magdy on X (formerly Twitter): ""Is enlightenment a possibility in this lifetime?"I captured this silent screen recording from @audible_com's "The Eye of the I for @VeritasPublish while going for a barefoot sunrise meditation for a reason, forgot it for 2 years, then transcribed the tagged portion, it says: pic.twitter.com/5CjOZtUK6Q / X"

"Is enlightenment a possibility in this lifetime?"I captured this silent screen recording from @audible_com's "The Eye of the I for @VeritasPublish while going for a barefoot sunrise meditation for a reason, forgot it for 2 years, then transcribed the tagged portion, it says: pic.twitter.com/5CjOZtUK6Q

As you can see, the 80 seconds were that of an Audible title named: “The Eye of the I, Chapter 18: Truth and Error” starting from 8:56 minute, I saw the mute screen recording today and I got curious about what was playing there. I turned to my temporary replacement phone — after I destroyed my other phone a few months ago during a spiritual journey — to get the recently re-downloaded title from the Audible app and playback this exact segment that I seem to have “tagged” for a certain purpose.

I transcripted the segment and it said:

Abdo Magdy on X (formerly Twitter): "Silent screen-captured segment transcripted: pic.twitter.com/RZm3YIwHeJ / X"

Silent screen-captured segment transcripted: pic.twitter.com/RZm3YIwHeJ

The Map of Consciousness, Making sense of the intellectual inspiration behind #WalaHaja

After I thoughtfully went through the tagged segment in this screen-capture video, it suddenly hit me. The #WalaHaja blogs that I wrote was a graduate of this “silent” thinking process. I have probably processed this information on a deeper level before it came to my cognitive consciousness and matured enough to be verbally shared and expressed.

Abdo Magdy on X (formerly Twitter): "What's the world's most crucial problem? Society entangled in lower vibrational frequencies due to its corrupt governing structures. World's top startup idea?Increasing consciousness of living beings through a new paradigm of governing structures. pic.twitter.com/V4bIt6jMq0

The Map of Consciousness is the easiest and most direct way to visualize the idea of David R. Hawkins, M.D. Ph.D. he states that there is a way to measure the frequency based on which individuals and societies are living and the corresponding life-view, emotion and process they follow at each range, in this silent segment, he states that for centuries humanity has been vibrating below “190” and in the past 1000 years, humanity had been stuck in the range of “Non Integrity”.

Though now we are entering a new era in which the average vibration has risen to “207” marking the fact that for the average human, now integrity is something vital to us.

Motivated by my own challenges and struggles, I was inspired by this concept to pursue the journey of raising my own vibrational frequency to qualify to face past, present and potentially future struggles.

Abdo Magdy on X (formerly Twitter): "Smearing Campaigns are a classic mobbing technique employed by weak men when they fail to dominate an individual they consider "threatening"Upside, when you go into wilderness alone, you're able to model the new character that will break the teeth of your enemiesBarefoot pic.twitter.com/x6VxZgpEUw / X"

Smearing Campaigns are a classic mobbing technique employed by weak men when they fail to dominate an individual they consider "threatening"Upside, when you go into wilderness alone, you're able to model the new character that will break the teeth of your enemiesBarefoot pic.twitter.com/x6VxZgpEUw

Facilitating discussions on consciousness and raising our vibrations as part of a co/mmunity project in Sinai

Raising our vibration has been a conscious choice in the community and hospitality brand/tech startup I was building in Sinai. Not only facilitated by barefoot daily meditations during Sun Rise and secluded mountain trips by Sun Set, coupled with the company of excellent like-minded and like-spirited Airbnb clients who become community members, but we have also facilitated discussions of these topics from both Eastern and Western views.

Abdo Magdy on X (formerly Twitter): "This conversation from one of the fireside chats of a co/mmunity project in Sinai. Featuring Russian, Ukrainian, Chinese and Egyptian (researchers); presents the possibility of an open/tolerant/advanced consciousness to bring seemingly different worlds into one (Like Buddah). pic.twitter.com/iYZ6RnKvFJ

BUDDAH has been a frequent visitor to our discussions on consciousness, in this video in which a Russian and a Chinese guests engage in discussion about the mind, we reach the conclusion of how BUDDAH was able through transcending the ego to build a peaceful perspective of a one world, with truth in the core of it. Since, falsehood is not really a thing, it’s only the cognitive error of classifying the state of absence of oneness stemming from fear.

While most of our guests have often shared ideas and reached conclusions through mind stimulating discourse, I have taken the venture a bit further. In the same location where you see the above discussion, I survived a certain death by a mean of a miracle. And I have truthfully pursued my research through getting close to losing my eyesight and reaching the boundaries of either facing black magic or hitting the borderline of losing my mind, or most probably both.

I was situated in Dahab, Sinai because it was the quietest and furthest spot from the disaster of Covid19 and also the memories and traumas of my past where I remained mobbed and alienated by my Cairo community, despite being an exceptional high performer on the surface.

I was the 2020 Winner of The Alumni Impact Award by the U.S Department of State exchange program. R. Hawkings, M.D. Ph.D. specifies two — obvious — routes through which humans reach this BUDDAH-like state, the direct approach — you can call “Sudden Enlightenment” — , being more popular in the east as they shift into a ZEN-like strict adherence to “Spiritual Awareness” that inspires a “Progressive Perfection of Personality” till this state of near enlightenment is reached. Or an indirect approach — or you can call “Gradual Enlightenment” often demonstrated by traditional religions inspired by great teachers such as “Moses, Jesus and Muhammad” peace and blessings be upon them, this slow-cooked approach where personality is transcended and perfected through religious adherence often “occasioned by sudden leaps in awareness” seems to be the route I consciously or unconsciously subscribed to.

Abdo Magdy on X (formerly Twitter): "Western thinking today if based on harsh capitalism. Currency as the reference for value and value exchange.Original and Authentic Western thinkers such as Plato, have had extensive illustration of what human soul is made of.Someone is lying to you about you. pic.twitter.com/UscHjMZuJl / X"

Western thinking today if based on harsh capitalism. Currency as the reference for value and value exchange.Original and Authentic Western thinkers such as Plato, have had extensive illustration of what human soul is made of.Someone is lying to you about you. pic.twitter.com/UscHjMZuJl

Both are obviously welcome approaches towards the same mean of reaching the highest possible vibrational frequency an individual is destined to reach. Native to the east/Asia, “Divinity” has always been associated with the arrival from this journey, while in the west, “Sainthood” is a more familiar state, could be conveyed with people like Marcus Aurelius and The Stoics for example.

Making sense of my personal experience and heritage

For me, this alternative state of consciousness was felt after I saw my already dead grandmother at the exact spot where I survived a certain death a few months earlier. My death and/or near-death experience was beautifully memorable since it felt quite fatherly and I saw a very similar ancient face that told me that I shall not die now and pushed me off a very thick electric cable I got tied to while working on expanding the same co/mmunity project I was passionate about.

My grandmother, who happens to come from the family of Prophet Muhammad PBUH, appeared to me with her grace and “gently made fun of me, instilling in me that I do not need to be afraid nor do I need to take what happens very seriously”.

I knew that I came from a family of refugees, I was stained with remarkably baby blue eyes with a dark, classic Egyptian skin-color, you guessed it right, I have taken a lot of bullying at school. Though, this inheritance document provided evidence that being a refugee could not come from poverty, though, can come from royalty.

My grandmother and her husband (my grandfather visible in the image above) are cousins where 50% of my mother-side DNA pool comes from Al Jazzar family, the Omda and Shaykh Al Balad (Defacto Community Leaders) of Egypt’s most mainstream area of Imbaba, both were known to have had their first grandmother arriving to Egypt upon the troubles with the Ottoman empire, she was known as the Ottoman Royal household lady whose family seek refuge in Egypt and inter-married with a powerful family in Imbada. I spent quite sometimes searching for an official record of Fatma Mahmoud Al Oqabbi, my great-great Turkish/Ottoman grandmother to whom I owe — most likely — the blue eyes.

While my direct research through government records have failed, my most recent DNA test showed obvious matches with almost all the Royal Families of Europe. I assumed given that mtDNA represents the maternal lineage, my great-great Ottoman grandmother had her roots also connected to other Royal families in Europe. This realization also made a lot of sense to my ability to see different perspectives and engage with different societies, it was not just a matter of learning and simulation, it could also be very likely encoded in my blood.

On the other than, my research in my less documented father side, I arrived at this document showing that my great-great grandfather was an accredited mystic by an ancient Sufi order, Al Rifaiya, and he was married to the daughter of the Omda / Shaykh Al Balad (i.e. Defacto Community Leader) of “Al Moskii” in old Cairo.

Having had confirmed mystical roots from both my father and my mother’s side. I felt more comfortable dealing with the idea that I could have experienced some unusual higher consciousness experiences, or let’s say at least have a documented excuse on why I could be a native to these states.

Integrating my AI, co/mmunity project with a global vision for “The Tradition of Enlightenment”, conveyed under “Oneness of Being” Algorithm for Ibn Arabi.

Abdo Magdy on X (formerly Twitter): "This is the core algorithm through which we try to bring every system of being together (Known as Unity of Being for Ibn Arabi). It's our answer to the "AI Alignment" challenge. pic.twitter.com/DI89q4TCxi / X"

This is the core algorithm through which we try to bring every system of being together (Known as Unity of Being for Ibn Arabi). It's our answer to the "AI Alignment" challenge. pic.twitter.com/DI89q4TCxi

Today, I’m a firm believer in the possibility for establishing global peace by returning humans back to their deeply rooted “Tradition of Enlightenment” and to utilize the powerful Artificial Intelligence technologies we are developing today to formulate a world where humans are pursuing their own very unique beings while transcending the err of their egos and ascending on the scale of higher vibrating consciousness.

In my own journey, I was inspired by how people from totally different backgrounds at a small coastal city can reach the exact same conclusion. Looking at the structure of my “bald head” at that time, someone told me that I carry the DNA of someone who was beheaded.

A fact that was then confirmed as I got a certificate of bloodline ending with the grandson of Prophet Muhammad Hussain RA, who was beheaded in his quest for global unity and authentic leadership, a path I might have knowingly or unknowingly been destined to pursue.

Now, beside working on a series of writings that I have labeled #WalaHaja — current found at: https://www.abdomagdy.com/walahaja/, I’m also working on the development of Conscience-driven AI solutions that prioritizes the idea of bringing communities back to their own version of “Tradition of Enlightenment” through a AI company that I have called @ernst__ai that I have decided to dedicate to the beautiful soul of Aaron Bushnell.

Abdo Magdy on X (formerly Twitter): "I'm building comprehensive AI frameworks to re-align human life on earth with the way God intended for it to be, powered by the best of truthful human inspiration and the best of modern AI engineering. pic.twitter.com/DEgZgd3WOJ / X"

I'm building comprehensive AI frameworks to re-align human life on earth with the way God intended for it to be, powered by the best of truthful human inspiration and the best of modern AI engineering. pic.twitter.com/DEgZgd3WOJ

Originally published at Abdo Magdy | Entrepreneur, Researcher & AI Engineer.

WalaHaja #11: Mohammed’s authentic model for “Community Management.”; Freeing my religion from hijackers

WalaHaja #11: Mohammed’s authentic model for “Community Management.”; Freeing my religion from hijackers

Pursuing a research project on “Community Management”, starting with a question: How did successful communities around the world go about “running their lives”?

The Muslim community — believers and followers of Prophet Mohammed PBUH as the last messenger from God — now accounts for almost a quarter of living humans, 1.9 Billion.

Growing up, you are taught to treat matters of religion as “take it as it is”, don’t argue, don’t think. Furthermore, religion is often used and referenced as a reason for all kind of “unfair” situations forced upon you, a reference to a misplaced religious quote here and there and your god-given human nature and possibly human-rights are violated, clogged and your wellbeing is trashed behind those who hijack religious teachings for their advantage.

On his deathbed, Prophet Mohammed PBUH, handed over his last pieces of advice to his followers. Humans value the last advice on a deathbed and it becomes a duty and responsibility towards the following generations of devoted followers to pass this advice and wisdom along, with the same clarity by which it was received.

Not to screw it for personal or political gains or hide it to enforce a different reality over a huge population of people.

وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَاكَ إِلَّا رَحْمَةً لِّلْعَالَمِينَ (107) الأنبياء

“And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], except as a mercy to the worlds.” (107) Al-Anbiyaa

The Holy Qur’an specifies that the last prophet was sent as a “mercy” for all the worlds. But the majority of the Muslim population is living in a different reality.

*First: Stakeholder capitalism with a heart*

So, what if we explore what were the real teachings of Mohammed PBUH and what they instilled in action before words and what is the closest modern equivalent of these teachings that would pass an authenticity test.

Mohammed was a trader, all his life he traveled for trade and his trade was successful prior to his message as he was called “الصادق الأمين” “Alsaadiq, Al’amin”, translated to “Truthful” and “Custodian”, it’s the greatest measure of success in business, honesty and transparency and competence and responsibility.

With that Mohammed and his messages did not come to call people for being lazy or unproductive, though, it called for consistent pursuit of self improvement until you reach the ultimate capacity of “truthfulness” and “competence” in handling your affairs, the exact same model embodied by many cultures and philosophies around the world.

With that also Mohammed has shown that “trade and investment” is not an affair to shy away from participating in, though, it’s a critical matter to the individual and the state that is the best for your to participate and engage while adhering to your principles.

So, it’s free trade and investment, with a social responsibility towards your people through Zakah.

“Zakah or Zakat is an Islamic finance term referring to the obligation that an individual has to donate a certain proportion of wealth each year to charitable causes. Zakat is mandatory for all Muslims in most countries and is considered to be a form of worship.”

So, what is the modern equivalent of that?

*Second: It’s a Republic (not a hereditary monarchy) الإدارة وليس الملك*

Socialism? Obviously not. You might argue that “Stakeholder Capitalism” or “Capitalism with a Heart” is the closest modern concept to what Mohammed has instilled through his actions.

Mohammed PBUH, did not have heirs, nor did he appoint someone to a position of leadership, he only made recommendations of who he thinks is most qualified based on the qualities instilled of “truthfulness” and “competence”.

At the beginning of growth of the “Muslim Community”, the Khalifah, was not chosen as a king, rather, was someone who the majority of people with credible opinion deem to be most “truthful” and “competent” to take leadership.

And the leadership was one of “Responsible Management of Assets and Resources” for a given period of time, not a model of “Ownership” and “Kinghood”. This very basic leadership model has changed with the rapid evolution of “Empires” and the “power hunger” that erupted from competition over land and glory that followed.

*Third: It’s a democracy الشوري*

The fundamentals of Muslim is to be governed in a “Responsible Republic” that takes into account the needs and competences of all its populations.

How does a living community choses what’s best for themselves? They consult their best opinions and choose what is thought to be best for them. Just like “Crowdsourcing” being solutions that comply with their “Principles” and voting on decisions of critical importance to community members.

“And those who answer the Call of their Lord [i.e. to believe that He is the only One Lord (Allah), and to worship none but Him Alone], and perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), and who (conduct) their affairs by mutual consultation, and who spend of what We have bestowed on them;” 38 Al-Shurra, Holy Qur’an

They conduct their affairs by mutual consultation, not by forced top-down decisions and by “power hungry” manipulators and wars, no, by “mutual consultation”, this is the equivalent of “Think Tanks”, “Compassionate Inquiry” and “The Art of Gathering.”

Thus, these three principles; free trade and investment with consideration to the environment and the people though financial contributions, hiring the most truthful and most competent to positions of power throughout the structure, including and especially the Caliphate and keeping it civil through compassionate dialogue among community members to find out the absolute best solution for their problems that does not violate their principles.

This conclusion brings you back to the fact that over hundreds of years, these authentic teachings of what the message of the Prophet Mohammed PBUH has been hijacked and in its essence, this core message not only agrees, but takes the position of leadership over modern theories and models for how to run a community of people.

P.S. And here is a photo of a beautiful keychain made by Bedouin ladies in Nuwibaa, spontaneously chosen to hold the keys for a community project that I’m working on.

Originally published at https://abdomagdy.com.

He explores why power is controversial, the types of power that shape interactions, and how social media influences modern power structures. This Q&A distills his insights into a clear and engaging format, offering practical takeaways for understanding and navigating workplace relationships.

Q&A
Why is power such a controversial topic?
Power is controversial because it’s both sought after and often mishandled. Mr. Magdy notes that people desire power for the freedom it promises, yet fear its responsibilities and the conflicts it can spark with other powerful individuals. This internal tension makes power a complex and debated subject.

What are the different types of power, and what traits do powerful people share?
Mr. Magdy highlights four types of power: character (personal influence), position (authority from roles), knowledge (expertise-based influence), and resources (control over assets). Powerful individuals often exhibit self-awareness, the ability to connect with others, and emotional stability, enabling them to influence effectively across these domains.

How does approaching interactions from a status versus a likability perspective differ?
Status-driven people rely on authority and control, sometimes using aggressive tactics to dominate. Likability-driven individuals, however, build influence through cooperation and fairness. Mr. Magdy cites footballer Mohamed Salah as an example of someone whose power stems from likability, contrasting with those who leverage authoritative status, like a club president.

What does powerful behavior look like?
Powerful behavior exudes confidence and composure. Mr. Magdy recalls entering a building without hesitation, proactively explaining his guest status to security. He emphasizes that powerful individuals stay calm, think strategically, and avoid knee-jerk reactions, aligning with philosophies like Stoicism that prioritize long-term perspective over emotional reactivity.

How can I detect my place in the social hierarchy?
Mr. Magdy describes four social archetypes: alphas (leaders who assert influence), betas (followers who support alphas), gammas (content group participants), and sigmas (independent thinkers). By assessing your influence — whether you lead, follow, participate, or operate independently — you can pinpoint your role in a group.

How should I deal with someone exercising excessive or unfair power?
Rather than reacting impulsively, Mr. Magdy advises excelling in your work and adhering to organizational rules. By staying grounded and performing well, you may gain recognition from higher authorities who can address the unfairness. Alternatively, if the situation persists, stepping away to operate independently (like a sigma) could be an option.

How has social media affected power dynamics?
Social media has shifted power toward status, with metrics like followers and likes amplifying perceived influence. Mr. Magdy cautions that this can foster an obsession with online validation, often creating a hollow power base — many with large followings lack genuine real-world connections.

This Q&A encapsulates Mr. Abdo Magdy’s key insights on workplace power dynamics, making them accessible and relevant for readers. The discussion delves into how coaches differ from therapists or mentors, why selecting the right coach is essential, and practical advice for choosing a coach, particularly for entrepreneurs and startup leaders. Watch the full interview on YouTube for more insights!

How do coaches help, and how are they different from therapists or friends?
Yeah, that’s a very good point. I think one of the big challenges once there is a coaching relationship established is understanding what to expect from the coach. So, in terms of what do you expect from the coach, I think the biggest word is going to be performance because coaches are focused on helping you become better at doing something specifically. If we’re talking about young entrepreneurs or business executives, it’s about executing the business and moving the business forward. So, it’s about focusing on the different areas of performance for a specific individual, being empathetic with them, and then helping them move to the next level. So, focusing on performance and performance improvement is a vital keyword here when it comes to what we expect from coaches.

Why is choosing the right coach a decisive factor in accomplishing goals?
Yeah, I think if we look at the process of improvement, coaches are a very, very important and intimate relationship to a lot of extents. If we look at those in sports, we would see that there is a huge difference that’s made in a player’s performance based on the kind of coaches that they have. So, if we look at this close relationship between coaches and crew chiefs, we would see that this is a very strong and important relationship, and based on that, looking at the right coach would be very vital to how far we’re going to go with that. So, for us to find the right coach, this is going to be affecting our performance. This could be like reaching the goal faster, so becoming better faster. I mean, even if we look at sports, I know people who were interested in a specific sport; they spent three years pursuing that path, and then that improvement was not really fast enough, but with the right coach, they were able to reach that kind of performance in like six months. So, saving time, saving money, and improving fast and rapidly, I think these are the benefits of finding the right coach.

What are the qualifications of a good coach, and how can we choose the right one?
Yeah, that’s a very difficult part to actually discover before having the experience itself. So, one of the best things to do is to actually know what you’re looking for and also look for specialized coaches. I think there are generic coaches; people can coach you across, like, there are life coaches, there are business coaches, and there are some deeply vertical and specialized coaches. And I think it’s going to also depend on who’s seeking the coaching and to what extent is the problem wide or is it narrow. So, based on that, you’re going to figure out what kind of coach you’re going to be aiming for. So, if I look at picking the right coach, I would actually understand what do I expect from the coach, what is the outcome that I’m seeking. So, if I’m an entrepreneur, for example, seeking to raise funds for my business, I would see that the outcome is for me to be qualified to talk to investors and secure funding for my business. So, this is my objective, and by then, I’m going to be looking for the coach who actually knows that topic, who has access somehow and understands the process and probably went through it before. So, if I find someone with that, I would possibly just look for a meeting, an introduction meeting with them. And I think lots of professional coaches offer that — you can spend one to two hours with them having an introduction meeting without committing to a coaching relationship. So, having this kind of dating relationship, in which you sit with the coach and you see whether you’ve got chemistry, do you like to talk with this person, would you trust them with your secrets? This is a very vital step. One other aspect is looking at others from the industry and what kind of feedback they have from this particular individual.

What is the difference between a mentor and a coach?
Yeah, I think the mentor is more like a spiritual relationship to what extent that mentor is someone that you look up to and who accomplished something, and then you have mostly less frequent organization than a coach. The mentor is someone who provides general direction, like advice when it comes to general direction. So, which direction should I take? So, a mentor would be someone who could possibly be more senior, like older, with a lot of experience, someone that you look up to as a character and as an individual, and by then, they provide you in conversation about the general direction. So, there’s a lot of things in common with coaches, but coaches are mostly focused on performance and specific goals. So, if you hire a coach because you have a very particular objective that you want to reach, then this coach, while not guaranteeing that you’re going to reach that goal because that’s something outside of their control, they do their best in getting you as fit as possible to reach that goal. So, this is a distinction between the mentorship and the coaching relationship.

How can coaching benefit startups, and what is the nature of the relationship between entrepreneurs and coaches?
Getting back to your question, when it comes to focusing on startups, I think by then a coach would better actually be focused on a specific individual within the company. So, there could be group coaching for a whole startup, but it’s going to have a different format. I think some of the best ways to do that is to either coach the CEO or coach the management team, even sometimes independently, because people sometimes have different agendas, and a coach has to be committed to a specific individual. So, the highest value could be from coaching the CEO himself, and also, I could have a coach, everyone else within a team could get a different coach, but by then, if you focus on the performance of the CEO, the way they look at the business, the way they interact with people, and also possibly bringing a network of people to kind of grab and motivate the CEO in a specific direction, I think that would be an extremely valuable thing, just spotting on a specific individual, because this is somehow an intimate relationship. And yes, when it comes to startups, because startups are evolving organizations, there’s massive risk and massive change and a lot of uncertainty, so it gets very intimate sometimes. And I think some of the downside is that there are massive expectations of what the coach is going to bring us. So, if we’re building a startup with an idea and we’re seeking funding, I might assume that my coach is going to possibly just give me access to the funds, while the coach can actually help you become more ready to access the funds; you cannot guarantee that. And also, there are many variables; it has to do with verifying that this is actually a feasible business idea, and this might not be the area in which you have requested the coach to coach — you might be performance-oriented, and they are not necessarily looking at the strategy of the company. So, understanding, while this is going to become personal and intimate, is that this is what I provide you, and sometimes, as coaches, you have to repeat that. In this part, you probably need to talk to a therapist — I can connect you to a therapist — or I can connect you to a consultant, but when it comes to that, I’m concerned about you and your performance with the business, and that’s what we’re going to focus on during the sessions. So, you would think about it pretty close to therapists when it comes to good coaching; they’re going to become more intimate, but it’s actually focused on performance — what do I do in order to get there.

How can I know the coaching program and format that fits my needs?
Yeah, I think some of the best things is to have this customized. So, coaches offer specific programs; this could actually be time-based, mostly it’s time-based because in a coaching interaction, what you do is quite different and a lot different context. So, you need to actually look at it in terms of what time do I have as an executive because if I’m a CEO of a startup, I’m probably very busy. If I have 10 or 20 staff and I’m recruiting heavily, so I’m possibly busy, and my coach is also busy. So, I need to look at what kind of time limits do I look for.

Originally published at Entrepreneur, Researcher & AI Engineer.

He shares insights on the importance of a growth mindset, the role of personal contacts, financing options, and advice for young entrepreneurs. Watch the full interview on YouTube for more details!

Q&A
What are the major opportunities and challenges facing SMEs in Egypt?
Mr. Magdy highlights that SMEs are crucial to Egypt’s economy, employing over 90% of the workforce. However, many face challenges like a fixed mindset, operating hand-to-mouth, and excessive competition. He emphasizes the need for a growth mindset to adapt to changes in economic conditions and technology.

How important are personal contacts for the success of small businesses?
While personal relationships can build trust and smoother interactions, Mr. Magdy warns against letting them overshadow competence. Relying too much on personal connections, especially those based on favors, can complicate decision-making. He advises a pragmatic approach, focusing on finding the best solutions rather than solely on personal ties.

What is the difference between operating hand-to-mouth and seeking capital finance for SMEs?
Operating hand-to-mouth limits growth and innovation, as businesses struggle to invest in necessary improvements. Mr. Magdy advocates for seeking external finance, such as equity investments or loans, to fund growth projects and achieve long-term success. He notes that many Egyptian businesses are hesitant to seek external finance due to unfamiliarity or administrative challenges, but overcoming these barriers is crucial for growth.

What fields in Egypt should young entrepreneurs focus on?
Mr. Magdy suggests using the “hedgehog concept”: identify what you’re passionate about, what you’re competent in, and where there are economic opportunities. By focusing on the intersection of these three areas, entrepreneurs can find a niche where they can excel and grow their business.

Originally published at Entrepreneur, Researcher & AI Engineer.

He explores the current state and potential of voice assistants, their impact on businesses and consumers, and how individuals can prepare for this technological shift. Watch the full interview on YouTube for more insights!

How soon is voice assistance technology expected to become more common for normal users?
Voice technology is already emerging rapidly and becoming more common. For example, using Google Maps with voice commands allows navigation without typing, showing how convenient it is. Statistically, 50% of search engine queries are now voice-based, a strong indicator of quick adoption. Additionally, about 30% of the U.S. population uses smart speakers for home automation, like controlling lights or security systems. These trends suggest that voice assistance is here and will continue to grow, impacting both individuals and businesses in the near future.

What are the main tasks we can expect voice assistants to conduct?
Voice assistants are currently handling tasks like managing calendars, setting reminders, reading emails and articles, and controlling home devices. For instance, you can multitask by having an assistant read an article while you’re in the kitchen. These tasks are efficient because they leverage the voice interface, making them convenient for users.

Who is expected to control the voice assistant market now and in the future?
Big technology companies like Google and Apple currently dominate the market due to their ecosystems. Google Assistant is integrated into Android phones, and Siri is on Apple devices, giving them a vast reach. However, entrepreneurs can still play a role by creating specialized solutions or adding skills to platforms like Alexa. For example, a Kickstarter project raised over a million dollars for a smart speaker that helps English speakers learn Chinese, proving there’s room for niche innovations.

What are the biggest threats and drawbacks of voice assistant technologies?
A major concern is job security, as automation might replace certain tasks. On a personal level, privacy is a significant issue because voice assistants must always listen to detect activation commands, raising data protection concerns. Additionally, some people don’t yet see the need for voice assistants if they can perform tasks manually, though privacy remains the top worry.

Is voice assistant technology controlled only by tech giants, or is there room for smaller teams and entrepreneurs?
While tech giants have an edge due to their resources and ecosystems, smaller teams can innovate using open-source solutions available online. These allow entrepreneurs to build specialized voice assistants for specific industries or needs. For example, the Kickstarter smart speaker for learning Chinese shows how a small team can succeed by finding a niche, despite the challenges of advanced technology development.

To what extent will voice technologies affect business building and customer interactions?
Voice technology is starting to impact businesses with applications like meeting management, where assistants take notes and prepare to-do lists. Another emerging use is in advertising, where business owners can describe their target audience and product to an assistant, which then manages the campaign. This makes advanced tools accessible to smaller businesses. Additionally, voice assistants can aid in onboarding new employees by providing interactive training, enhancing business processes.

How can viewers prepare for the usage of voice assistant technology?
Start using voice technology now whenever possible, like with Google Maps voice commands, to get familiar with it. These systems improve with use due to machine learning. As employees or business owners, integrating voice technology into your workflow can boost your career. Rather than competing with it, use it to enhance your capabilities — for example, if you run an agency, leverage an assistant to improve your services.

Originally published at Entrepreneur, Researcher & AI Engineer.

The content has been distilled from the full transcript (available at abdomagdy.com) and the YouTube video, edited for clarity and tailored for a website audience.

Nurturing Talent: Insights from Mr. Abdo Magdy
In this Nile TV interview, business coach Mr. Abdo Magdy explores how nurturing talent — termed “White Rabbits” — can elevate organizational performance. He shares actionable insights on talent discovery, the roles of parents and schools, the limits of IQ tests, and strategies for helping individuals unlock their potential. Below is a Q&A summary of his key points.

Q&A
How does talent discovery work, and what should organizations consider?
Talent discovery balances immediate performance needs with long-term development. Mr. Magdy explains that organizations must decide whether to hire mature talent ready to perform or invest in nurturing potential over time. This choice depends on the organization’s stage and goals. For example, a startup might prioritize ready performers, while an established firm could focus on growth.

What roles do parents and schools play in nurturing talent?
Parents and schools are foundational. Mr. Magdy stresses giving children flexibility to explore various disciplines through play and discovery. Parents should support this exploration, while schools must identify and invest in areas of potential — whether obvious (like writing or sports) or subtle — offering resources to help talents emerge.

Are IQ tests a reliable way to identify talent?
Not entirely. Mr. Magdy notes that IQ tests measure cognitive abilities, but beyond a threshold (around 120), higher scores don’t guarantee success. Other traits, like social skills or creativity, often matter more. For instance, a comedian or artist might excel despite a modest IQ, highlighting the need for broader assessment tools.

How can we help talented individuals rediscover their potential?
Consistency and practice are essential. Referencing the 10,000-hour rule, Mr. Magdy emphasizes that talent develops with sustained effort. He suggests joining clubs, seeking extra training, or using apps for daily practice (e.g., 5-minute skill drills). For professionals, combining expertise in new ways — like his own shift into strategic communication — can open fresh opportunities.

Why is experimentation important in talent development?
Experimentation unlocks hidden potential, especially later in life. Mr. Magdy shares how he discovered a knack for strategic communication in Washington, D.C., despite no prior experience. He encourages trying new experiences and blending skills creatively, which can lead to innovative careers or business ventures.

Key Takeaways
Organizations: Strategically balance hiring ready talent with nurturing potential.
Parents & Schools: Provide space for exploration to let talents surface naturally.
Individuals: Commit to consistent practice and embrace experimentation to unlock new paths.

For the full discussion, watch the interview on YouTube or read the original transcript.

This response captures Mr. Magdy’s insights in a clear, engaging format, making it easy to understand how nurturing talent drives personal and organizational success.

Originally published at Entrepreneur, Researcher & AI Engineer.

He discusses the shift to remote work, introduces the concept of smart work programs, and offers insights on adapting to new challenges. This Q&A captures his key points, providing practical advice for business owners facing an unprecedented crisis.

Q&A
Q: How has COVID-19 economically impacted entrepreneurs and SMEs?
A: Mr. Magdy explains that the pandemic and lockdowns have triggered a severe economic downturn, evident in declining stock markets and suspended activities. He predicts an “intense” recession, hitting SMEs hard due to their reliance on daily operations and limited resources.

Q: What are the main challenges of switching to remote work?
A: He identifies several hurdles:
Home distractions: Unlike offices, homes lack structured workspaces, causing interruptions.
Unpreparedness: Many employees weren’t trained for remote work, lacking tools and mindset.
Low productivity: Business leaders report “no productivity at all” due to these issues.
Tech-savvy industries, however, adapted more easily, leveraging existing remote setups.

Q: What is a smart work program, and what does it involve?
A: Mr. Magdy describes smart work as a structured remote work model, often part of employment contracts. It allows employees to work independently of a physical office, sometimes on a hybrid basis (e.g., half-time remotely). It balances employer-employee expectations, with companies already using such programs faring better during the crisis.

Q: How can business leaders decide if smart work suits their company?
A: It depends on the industry. Knowledge-based sectors (e.g., tech, design, customer service) adapt well, while physical industries (e.g., manufacturing) face limits. Benefits like reduced commutes can boost productivity, so leaders should assess what percentage of their operations can go remote.

Q: What difficulties do employees face with smart work, and how can they be overcome?
A: Challenges include:
Cultural resistance: Remote work is often seen as unproductive.
Distractions: Household duties disrupt focus.
Mindset adjustment: Discipline is key.
Solutions involve providing a dedicated workspace, task management tools, and mindset training to enhance productivity.

Q: Can smart work persist after COVID-19?
A: Yes, if implemented thoughtfully. Success hinges on onboarding employees with training and support, using technology (e.g., AI tools like Alexa) to manage tasks and well-being, and maintaining empathy during the transition.

Q: What’s the first step for a business owner to adopt smart work?
A: Mr. Magdy advises against rushing in unprepared. Instead, consult experts, design a comprehensive program (covering setups, tools, and training), and onboard employees gradually to ensure productivity.

Q: How can young entrepreneurs and SMEs survive the pandemic?
A: He suggests:
Pause and reflect: Adjust to the crisis before acting.
Go digital: Shift to e-commerce or online services.
Learn online: Use free resources to develop skills.
Innovate: Create solutions for new market needs.
Young entrepreneurs, with small, agile teams, may recover faster than larger firms.

Q: Will business ideas change post-COVID-19?
A: Yes, Mr. Magdy predicts a surge in remote services and tech-driven innovation, driven by shifts in consumer behavior. He quotes: “Who took the initiative on digital transformation in your company? Your CEO, your CTO, or COVID-19?” — noting the pandemic’s role in forcing change.

Conclusion
Mr. Abdo Magdy’s insights underscore the urgency of adapting to COVID-19 through remote work and digital strategies. Smart work programs offer a structured solution, while innovation and flexibility are vital for survival. For entrepreneurs and SMEs, the crisis is both a challenge and an opportunity to rethink business models. He discusses its key aspects, the best times to network, the challenges it addresses, and its broader economic impact. The conversation offers practical insights for business owners at all stages. Dive into the full interview on YouTube for more!

Q&A
What are the key aspects of business networking for entrepreneurs?
Mr. Magdy highlights that business networking is about connecting with others to build strategic relationships. Entrepreneurs often get caught up in daily operations and miss opportunities to meet potential partners, clients, or hires. Networking enables them to shake hands with the right people at the right time, fostering business growth through timely and valuable connections.

When should business owners start networking?
Networking is valuable at all stages, even before launching a business. At the idea phase, attending events helps entrepreneurs understand industry trends and meet potential collaborators. As the business develops, ongoing networking supports finding clients, recruiting talent, and staying market-savvy.

What challenges can business networking help overcome?
Networking tackles several challenges, including lead generation, recruitment (especially for senior executives), and industry awareness. It’s an effective way to meet potential clients personally, connect with experienced professionals before formal hiring, and stay informed about trends across industries.

What are the different formats of business networking, online and offline?
Online, entrepreneurs can leverage platforms like LinkedIn, Facebook groups, or even dating apps repurposed for business connections. Offline, attending events and meeting people face-to-face builds stronger, more meaningful relationships. Mr. Magdy notes that online networking boosts credibility, while offline interactions deepen ties.

How much networking is too much?
It varies by business stage and role, but Mr. Magdy cautions against “not working” — excessive networking without purpose. For busy entrepreneurs, attending one or two relevant events weekly can suffice, ensuring a steady flow of ideas and connections without becoming a distraction.

How can entrepreneurs find relevant networking opportunities?
Finding the right events can be tough, especially with exclusive or membership-based networks. Mr. Magdy recommends using tools like Meetup or event aggregators to locate industry-specific gatherings. Planning quarterly or yearly to attend key events ensures consistent engagement.

What are the highlights of business networking etiquette?
Avoid being overly sales-focused. Mr. Magdy advises adding value to the network — like sharing insights in a Facebook group before promoting an event — rather than pushing products. Being a “seeder” (contributor) rather than a “leecher” (taker) builds credibility and fosters genuine connections.

How can companies measure the impact of networking activities?
Measuring networking success is challenging but possible. Mr. Magdy suggests tracking connections annually, following up with contacts, and assessing outcomes like new clients, partnerships, or ideas. Networking often pays off long-term, so patience is key.

Does effective networking require intelligence or training?
Both are essential. Social intelligence helps entrepreneurs understand others and offer value, while training refines skills. Mr. Magdy warns that being pushy or salesy can backfire, emphasizing thoughtful engagement over aggressive tactics.

How can established companies benefit from networking, and what challenges do they face?
Established firms can network to stay innovative and connect with startups, but hierarchy complicates participation. Mr. Magdy advises empowering employees to engage personally, as networking thrives on human connection, not just corporate representation.

To what extent can business networking boost the economy?
Networking uncovers hidden opportunities by fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing. Mr. Magdy explains that when entrepreneurs exchange experiences, it sparks new businesses, partnerships, and industry advancements, driving economic growth.

How can introverted entrepreneurs overcome networking challenges?
For introverts, structured formats like speed networking — where timed interactions reduce pressure — work well. Mr. Magdy suggests event organizers can assist by introducing introverts to others, making engagement less daunting.

This Q&A captures the essence of Mr. Magdy’s insights, tailored for a website audience with clear, concise language. The discussion centers on how businesses must adapt to the modern internet sales cycle to remain competitive, emphasizing the role of technology, the challenges of digital transformation, and the skills required for sales professionals in this digital era. Below is a concise summary of the key points from the interview, available in full here and on YouTube.

1. The Impact of the Internet on Consumer Behavior and Business Operations
The internet has shifted consumer purchasing habits significantly, with younger generations — particularly those around 35 — leading the charge in online transactions. Mr. Magdy notes, “Lots of these transactions which used to happen in store… have moved online.” While older consumers (50s and above) may still prefer physical stores, they often research online beforehand, blending digital and traditional shopping. In Egypt, this trend is growing but lags behind more digitally mature markets. Businesses, especially small ones, must adapt by capturing online traffic to stay relevant as consumer behavior evolves.

2. Challenges Businesses Face in Adapting to the Digital Age
Adapting to this shift poses significant challenges, particularly for established businesses. Mr. Magdy highlights the rise of “digital transformation” as an industry dedicated to helping companies “ride the digital age.” Key obstacles include:
Understanding changing consumer preferences.
Transitioning marketing and sales to online platforms.
Competing with digital-native businesses.
He stresses the need to “get into the mind of these consumers” to tailor strategies effectively, a task that requires both insight and agility.

3. The Modern Sales Cycle and Its Key Components
Mr. Magdy outlines a customer-centric modern sales cycle with five essential stages:
Identify Customer Personas: Define the ideal customer (e.g., age, location, spending habits).
Locate Them Online: Pinpoint where they spend time (e.g., YouTube, LinkedIn).
Address Their Pain Points: Craft messages that solve their problems or meet their needs.
Simplify Engagement: Enable easy actions like downloading a resource or signing up.
Close the Sale: Use skilled sales professionals to finalize transactions.
While technology automates much of this process, human expertise remains vital, especially for complex purchases where customers need guidance beyond the shopping cart.

4. The Role of Technology in Sales
Technology, particularly analytics and automation, is reshaping sales:
Analytics provide data on customer demographics and preferences, informing strategy.
Automation streamlines tasks like lead generation and email campaigns.
However, Mr. Magdy cautions that technology complements rather than replaces sales professionals. He uses an Einstein analogy: “The questions are the same, but the answers have changed,” suggesting that while sales psychology endures, the tools and processes have evolved. Sales teams must now manage these technologies effectively.

5. Skills Needed for Sales Professionals in the Digital Landscape
To thrive in 2020, sales professionals need a mix of technical and interpersonal skills:

IQ (Intelligence Quotient): For strategic planning.
AQ (Acquired Intelligence): For continuous learning and adaptability.
TQ (Technology Quotient): For mastering digital tools.
EQ (Emotional Intelligence): For understanding and connecting with customers.

Mr. Magdy predicts a future where sales professionals either “tell the machines what to do” or “be told what to do by the machines,” emphasizing the need to balance tech proficiency with human insight.

Conclusion
Mr. Abdo Magdy’s interview underscores that the internet has redefined consumer behavior and the sales process, pushing businesses to embrace the modern sales cycle. By leveraging technology and equipping sales teams with a blend of analytical and emotional skills, companies can navigate the digital marketplace successfully. His insights offer a roadmap for businesses and professionals aiming to stay competitive in 2020, highlighting adaptability as the key to success in an increasingly online world.
